Story related news that isn't exactly good, but isn't exactly terrible either... · 7:21pm Apr 4th, 2014
Okay the good aspect of the news first:
I've discovered that, back when I last updated Captain Equestria, I had written at least a third of a chapter's worth of material, that just ended up getting bumped back to this new, unfinished chapter.
HOWEVER, even with all that snazzy stuff, the chapter is only one third complete.
So the delemma is this: I've just given Apple Bloom her cutie mark, and now I'm wondering: How should I handle the reaction of everyone to a 14 year old getting a cutie mark in weaponry, which obviously extends to actively killing people (what else are weapons for? It's like having a paint brush cutie mark and not being able to paint).
I kinda want to get the story moving forward obviously, since i don't want to spend the next 8 chapters stuck in bootcamp. I honestly kinda wish to get bootcamp over and done with and AJ all supered up within the next...4 chapters or so? But, at the same time, I know I can't just bring something as game changing as Apple Bloom getting a cutie mark up, and then ignore it and never talk about it.
Also, I obviously need a reason for AB to stay around, since, if you're a sharp fellow (and I assume you all are), you'll probably have already guessed that AB is my Bucky.
So yeah, there I am. Ideas anybody for how to resolve this issue efficiently and satisfyingly?
Why not have the army enlist her as, I don't know, weapon consultant?
Or overseer of the weapon manufacture?
Any position where she doesn't have any actual responsability, but she's still involved in the process.
All of them already know that she's damned good at what she does.
From then she can work her way up in the army hierarchy until she lands some field position that will justify the accident/event that will tun her into the Winter Filly.
God, that sounds adorable.
AJ is still going to have a breakdown.
Regarding the boot camp thing, you can always do a montage of training scenes in which Applejack fails hilariously, yet pushes forward despite that.
All of that can be interspersed with some scenes with Professor Schultz among others. *cough* Applemour *cough*
And ultimately, have Applebloom help design Capt. Equestria's weapon of choice.
1981819 Well, I've got the doc ready.
If you want, I can send it your way and you can hammer something out? Since you've obviously got a clearer image of what we want (and you've kinda been shortchanged lately)
1981954 Awesome. Just sent it.
First things first, Maybe when Aj is having her freak out have Apple Bloom or Shining point out that just because gunsmithing is her Cutie Mark doesn't mean that's all she can do and talk about how a gun is a housing for small intricate parts and how gunpowder is a careful mix of chemicals and say how after the war she could be a Gunsmith and fix guns (Or Maybe make Cormamortive guns) but she could also do delicate repair work that would make her good at fixing clockwork stuff or if that doesn't pan out she could apprentice under Surprise for a time and make Apple Family Brand Fireworks, Basically look at the Cutie Mark as a starting point then Branch out.
Second thing is, Sorry for being gone but last few days my internet has been spotty and probably has to do with the fact that it's been FING SNOWING! So yeah not happy about that.
1982197 Well, look, I'm putzing around in the doc. JB managed to get a VERY rough outline up.
How about ya come over and see what you can do?
And damn son that sucks.

Montages work best in literature when they cut between two series of events. Cutting between Applejack and her sister would do that. Applejack being out paced by her sister would be hilarious.

I also feel the need to point out having a Cutie Mark in Gun making alone would not make her a good soldier. Getting her Cutie Mark for...what was it?
That would get ponies attention.
No one mentioned the minimum age of enlistment. If its 16 years old, and Apple Bloom is 15, that would go a ways towards making it believable.
1984533 you sir, have an excellent point.
I figure she becomes the fix-it guy for the Commandos. Which makes her transformation into the Winter Solider all the tragic.

Plus there are hints in the cartoon that She has a talent for Carpentry or Mechanics.
AJ's going to be FURIOUS either way.
By the way, are you planning on using the train scene, or something else?
Also, cool icon. Rather appropriate, too...
(I freaking LOVED Captain America: The Winter Soldier.)
1987376 Let the love shine broski.
And as for the train scene, I'm assuming you mean where Bucky 'died'? Possibly, I'm personally envisioning something involving a zeppelin...because zeppelins are badass.

BEST. MARVEL. MOVIE. EVER!!!
Hmm... You're right. A Zeppelin would be a pretty epic substitution.
1987437 WANNA PM ABOUT THE POST CREDITS SCENES?
Mostly because they'd obviously have an influence over my universe ya know
1987521
I would like to, but I don't know how to PM.
(That's a bit embarassing...)
1988277 Oh well, all you do is go to my main profile page, and then in the right corner, you'll see a little box that looks like a letter.
Click that, then a new window'll pop up and in the blank box at the bottom you can type your message and then hit the green button that says 'send'

Okay.
Thanks!
