PROBLEM SOLVED: Apple Bloom's cutie mark explained · 12:38am Apr 10th, 2014
So yeah remember how I was bitching about AB's cutie mark?
WELL LAZRUTH SOLVED THE PROBLEM!
WITNESS GENIUS:
Honestly, I was fine with how she got her cutie mark. Maybe it was just me, but when she was dis/reassembling those guns, I was thinking to myself "maybe it's not about breaking down and putting weapons together that her cutie mark represents, maybe it represents her ability to break down anything combat related."
Now, hear me out on this. You ever see the Sherlock Holmes movies? How Holmes looks at a person, takes in all the info he sees, puts together a plan of action that INCLUDES how his target is going to react and thus how he can react to THEIR reactions? That's what I saw Apple Bloom doing in combat, except taking that a step further in that she can look at a weapon and know certain things. For example, looking at a knife and knowing the best place to block it in order to break the blade while giving herself the smallest injury possible. Things like that, you know?
And if you've ever played Metal Gear Solid 3 and seen The Boss disassemble a guy's gun in the middle of a fight while he's still holding it and firing,.. Yeah, badass moments for Bloom.
I AM SO HAPPY
This sounds like something I said back when I was first explaining the gunsmithing cutie mark to you. Glad someone finally got you to see what I was saying.about analytically breaking a situation down.
Sounds good; so her skill's not killing ponies, it's just thinking tactically. Gives her more potential. So what do you think her cutie mark's going to be?
1996378 Logically, it could be the same thing as it was before....maybe add a cross-hairs to it to highlight it's tactical nature?
1996389 Possibly, but you better plan on not using Deadshot if you do that. If I might, I would suggest a more intellectual symbol of war. Since her talent involves assessing battle scenarios instead of just fighting, Athena's helmet or some symbols from Sun Tzu might be appropriate.
1996560 Dang your right.
Maybe a map with two guns crossed over it? The map representing planning, the guns representing combat?
So my opinion is genius? My ego, she swells! You might be exaggerating my contribution a bit, but regardless, I'm glad I could help.
1996569 Of course, Nightcrawlerfan has a point about what the cutie mark looks like...
1996573
Hmm, maybe two handguns crossed. But one is fully put together, the other looks like parts have been disassembled? Might be a bit too complicated. Ooh, or maybe a disassembled gun on top of a chessboard? Lord knows when I think tactics, I think chess. Or Fire Emblem. Love me some Fire Emblem.
1996582 Wait a pair of guns crossed over a chess board?
1996585
Nah, if you do the chessboard, keep it to one handgun. otherwise, the cutie mark would be too muddled and funny looking. Same if you do a map instead of the chessboard.
Also, pretty sure the original cutie mark is two combat rifles, but I just use handguns because those are my preferred guns. To be fair, a cutie mark in assembling and disassembling weapons (and ponies if you let her use the thing from Sherlock Holmes) IS a pretty damn hard thing to try and simplify into a small simple picture.
1996610 Yeah...
I like the chessboard idea though. If only because I like chess.
Also, chess is more obviously tactical.
1996582 I would worry the disassembled gun would be too complex. I like the earlier suggestion of two guns over a map, but if he were to incorporate chess into her cutie mark, I'd use something more simple and iconic, like one of the pieces. Perhaps the powerful Queen, or the calculating Bishop, or the daring Knight.
1996610 Actually, if it was just one gun, I could understand the chessboard idea.
1996630 So one gun on top of a chess board?
HELLA
Okay, since the idea for the cutie mark has kind of coalesced, I don't think anyone wants to hear this, but for the sake of completeness I'll throw out one final idea that occurred to me: a wrench crossed with a gun. Probably wouldn't work as well as the chessboard, but I felt I had to at least throw it out there.

1996634
Welp, looks like we're settled then. Good luck, my writer friend!
1996668 HELLA
1996647 that I can use for someone else, since the chess board is more obvious...to me at least
1996679 Cool; I'd actually have to agree, but I remembered some prototype cutie marks for the CMC that I ran across a while back, and AB's had a wrench as a part of hers, so I felt I should at least throw it out there.
1996679 maybe something simply? Like a handgun and binoculars?
1997504 that can work too.
1997557
A gear with a gun over top it?
Cutie marks are surprisingly hard.
1998349 That they are.
I'm thinking of just going with a gun and a chess board.
1998610
Also, I just saw the Winter Soldier.
everything is awesome

1998610 I don't really know about the chess board. That might just be personal preference, though
1999031 Well, I'm working on the sequence right now, so you can just drop on by and we can hash it out.
I'm using a proxy account, so if you don't recongnize the e-mail, just take heart that it's probably me.
1999050 I'm there
