I think it's time for a little story. A story about a little author who was planning what to write after finishing his first story. (The Precious Life - Nightmare. Read it!) After a whole freaking week of thinking a basic idea was born. It would be epic, it would be big and it would never happen!
Yea, this is the story about the story I originally named "Journey"
You have to know that I freaking love Applejack... Ähm... OK, lets start this again. I love Celestia and Luna, as characters. We only know so much about them that you can do pretty much everything with them. And their are immortal, strong and fun to write. One is a bit silly while the other is more serious. One loves cake, the other not so much. What does Luna like actually? But there is the proof. Those two are an empty book, waiting to be filled. And my original plan was to write the story how they became alicorns. (The German translators named them "Alihorn". I just wanted to punch the guy whoever did this and I'm happy that I only ever watched the English original.)
The main character would have been Chrysalis, a little changeling filly, living in the city Everfree as a slave. Irony much? But that would have been the start. On day, when she was on the marked, buying stuff for her pony owner, she would run into a young unicorn thief. His name? Star Swirl. In a big misunderstanding she gets mixed up in the robbery and thrown into jail. The good hearted stallion Star Swirl decides to rescue the little bug. And after all, it was his fault in the first place. He would take her with him into his camp, where would she meet the rest of the little thief group. First of all, the sisters Celeste and Selene. (If I have to tell you who these two are I'm gonna... Dunno.) Then their is the Doctor. Yes, the Doctor, but a parallel one. The one who belongs to this universe. Who ever was a gallifreyan who happens to look like pony. And finally Discord, a rather fun loving, not giving any fuck, unicorn. They call themselves treasure hunters and are on the watch out for their big deal. They ask Chrysalis to help them steal a treasure map from the royal library in Everfree. After all, she knows the big city and capital of Equestria best. She says yes, they break in and get what they were looking for. Then they notice the maps shows not one treasure, but six.
Meanwhile empress Faust is not happy that her private map was stolen and send every guard out to get it back.
So the little Group would travel a while and then, after some time, find the first treasure: A Gemstone. In the ruins they learn that when all six together they would unleash a power that could let every dream came true. (Yes, they're the elements.) So they travel further, gather one element after another while crossing nearly the entire planet. A big journey. While on this journey they would learn the value of friendship and working together etc. They realize that they could overthrow the evil empress with the power of the stones and save all of ponykind from her rule.
That was the original "Journey". Then I decided to do a totally different story xD
And I got one more! The idea to write a Celestia origin story stuck to my brain like Applejacks plot.... Who said that? Anyway!
Celestia would wake up in an empty world. Not knowing who she is, or what for that matter. She just exists suddenly. For a little eternity she would just wander around. Watch everything grow and so on. Then, one day, she would find a wild herd of ponies. Mindless beast in her eyes who just live and die one day. Eating grass who they were pooping on just seconds ago. Just when she was out of sight Celestia gets attacked by timberwolves. Nothing she couldn't handle. But one stallion from the herd followed her and tries to save the mare in distress. Nearly getting killed, Celestia decides to save the life of the stallion who tried to help her. He was still a mindless beast but over the time she spend with him the stallion advances on her, thinking the mare has accepted him. Being alone for eons has left Celestia rather... you get the idea. She decides to spend the short lifetime of the stallion with him. She will gave him three children. A unicorn, a pegasus and a earthpony. All three mares. Her children would stay with the herd, but Celestia decides to further travel the world after the stallion has passed. Her children did like her mother, finding their own stallions and give birth to the second generation of magical ponies. While Celestria travels she meets the first being who is like her, Luna. They continue to travel together and only after a few thousand years Celestia tells Luna about the children she had and the feeling she should see if the herd is still around. Imagine her impressed when she find a ruined civilization, thrown into chaos. Discord happens etc...
And that would be the story why exactly Celestia says: "They're my little ponies."
