Brainstorming: Stay 2: Electric Boogaloo · 8:02pm May 14th, 2014
Well, since every commentator (the three of them) on my last story, Stay, had asked about a sequel...
Pretty much that.
I'm not against writing a continuation but, I really don't know how to do it.
For starters, it wasn't even my idea. It was Giz who came up with the setting and I followed his line till I said "hey, I HAVE to writ that scene" and here we are. But I'm not even sure about how the original ended. As a big fan of Edgar A. Poe, I intentionally left it as ambiguous as I could to give it an undefined atmosphere, leaving more space to speculation.

Did Jimmy really just went for a short walk around? Did he came back? Was his response an euphemism for abandoning but taking Monarch with him to save her life? He lied at both, Chrysalis and Monarch, and just left them to die? Is his last name Olsen?
Is the hive really at a two hours walk distance from Appleloosa? If so, why hadn't none of the Princesses showed up to retaliate for the invasion? Why no diamond dog nor dragon attacked the hive yet?
Was Chrysalis really bluffing or she planned all along? Is Monarch a part on an absurdly complicated set up?
And what about Monarch anyway? Is she a pure changeling or a half pony kind? Is Shining Armour really her father? And if so, why he hadn't showed up? Have been Chrysalis lying to Monarch or to her father or he's a world class douche?

So, if you guys really want more about this you will have to help me on this. Comment about your thoughts about it and if I see an idea I like, I will write Stay's sequel or prequel or spin-off or whatever comes up.
Remember, there's no bad ideas in a brainstorming...
...till someone shows up with something really stupid.

I think Jimmy should leave with Monarch to see the pony village, and explore the world, yet return to the hive often enough to at least keep it alive. Monarch is truly Shinning's sun, but no pony ever suspected Chrysalis might of gotten pregnant from him. The hive is close but was never attacked because it is so well hidden (that is kinda what the channelings are all about). In a future seen where he returns to the hive you can say the door is so well hidden, even standing right in front of it you can't see it until it opens.
Now how would the ponies react to the Jimmy? Probably determined by how they are portrayed in legend. One way or another they eventually become suspicious of where the human disappears to with his little pony companion, which will eventually lead to them finding the hive.
Gest a general idea. There is lots of potential to do many different things here. Right now you may wont to think about how long you want the story to be, and if your going to focuses on there journey or the overall result.
Those aren't bad ideas at all,. Some of fridge logic here, a healthy piece of WMG there. I can work with some of those concepts.
For the next chapter I have this idea. An entry from Monarch's diary, showing how is life in the Hive from her perspective. What do you think?
2165667 Hmmm. Making Monarch the main character instead of Jimmy is an interesting and valid move.
Being so young I would assume she is curious and rather naïve, maybe optimistic. Future events will happen around, and involve her, but she wouldn't have much effect on how they play out. It would be great for a sort of dark story (if you want to make it one). Plus it's very likely that she will play a major role in the future of all changelings.
On that note, if she's a half changeling how douse/if at all, that make her different from a pure changeling. Like maybe she's not has dependent on emotional nourishment; is being a hybrid purely a good thing or are there draw backs?
In closer I like it.
2166874 maybe Monarch has features of both changleings and ponies. such as fur instead of chitin along with a changeling like horn and/or insectiod wings, a lack shapshifting magic or a overall weaker magic ability but no need for emotions as a food source. I mean, we don't need a OP Monarch but it might be interesting if she had traits some where along those lines. as it might lead to further complications with ponies which in turn could lead to some drama involving certain ponies should Monarch have her possible origins discovered.

I like that about making a little of drama involving Cadance and Shining.
