Revived...once again · 8:52am Jan 7th, 2012
Thankfully my computer is working again, and i also thank Celestia profusely for not crashing my hard drive. Which in turn means i'll be able to get back to writing. Interestingly though i seem to have gotten alot of feed back about whom Twilight should go see first. And proving my chapters succesful, is the fact that many have taken a liking to Sunshine x Twilight, which is exactly what i wanted. Most of them of course being irrational, desperate cries of plea. Which oddly only make me giddy. However- though i am not completely surprised by it- one of the comments threatened eternal trolling if i were to go against the wishes of this 'user'. I find this oddly funny although i do not doubt the sincerer tone of the message. Aah but i digress, i did not of course come here to chat to you about Celestia knows you have seen in the comment section below my latest chapter. Though i do not doubt that you haven't had the same reactions, i don't think you ever shall (unless you of course write yourself).
But actually i wanted to talk to you guys about something of more worth. I know there is probably a treasure trove of forgotten fictions, lying beneath the vast multitude of short stories and one shots. Like all things in life, these 'relics' sit there forgotten by time unless some pony goes looking for them. I don't know if the 25th of june was the first date of the first Fiction to have ever been posted here, but i doubt it. Although if that stands true then, there are a total of 3370 fictions here on Fimfic.net. Eye opening huh? And if there are only 3370 fics here then it would become apparant that i had the privelage of reading Fimfiction.net's oldest story. Also known as "The greatest Equine who ever lived!". And me myself and i have only been here since what 11 weeks ago? And in that time, i've read what,149 fics, and counting... I had no idea i had read so many, i mean sheesh.... But of course i won't remember them all, i mean come one not even grown dragon could remember that much intricate detail and emotion that each and every Fiction utilized... But of course i'll have my favorites, the fics that made me fall in love with the characters, or laugh so hard you'll think i'm pinkie pie. And its a shame Fimfiction can't tell you which chapter you first read, i doubt Fimfiction tracks that sort of info, far to unnecessary perhaps. But perhaps the fic i remember first reading (or among the very first) was "Moonlit Sparkles". And i remember coming across it, thinking "pfft romance, like i'm ever gonna read romance".
And you have to understand that during my first days on Fimfiction were also my first days as a Brony. I was completely new to everything the pony world had to offer, much less the Brony world. But as long as i can remember i've always had the "I'll try anything once attitude", and it has gotten me into trouble a few times, but i shall forever thank it. Because without it i would have never found any of this. Again i digress. Moonlit sparkles, the first and foremost romance fic that i read, has and will continue to be one of my all time favorites. I know i base my preference on purely arbitrary reasons, but i guess what keeps it as my favorite is the fact that it opened my eyes to shipping fics which i fear i would have shunned forever if not for it. But of course "moonlit sparkles was a popular fic back then racking a total of 4.8/5 in 115 votes. Not the highest rating of course, but a high one definitely. And for its quality and premise, i think it should deserve more rating than 115. but who am i to argue with the reading population of Fimfiction when i am one myself. I know many readers hold back rating until they believe the fic truly deserves it, but i like to rate a fic for every chapter i read. I give what it deserves, but i rate every chapter. I know many would argue to refrain from that but i firmly believe that if they write, then i should give knowledge of what i think the fic is worth. Of course i never judge a fic by how many stars are there or how many comments it has, or views. And yet there are many fictions out there that i know for a fact- and would fight for it- are sorely unappreciated, under-acknowledged, and for lack of a better word, under-viewed. Many of which far surpass the writing quality of any of the popular fictions like "Until you met her". Now i'm not saying that they don't deserve their fame, i do. I think they completely deserve the position they've attained. But what I am saying is that there are fictions out there that deserve as much if not more attention.
Let me give you an example of what i believe to be true gold in text. The end of ponies by shortskirtsandexplosions. This fiction has chapters with more words than i my entire fic has. Any writer here on fimfiction who is able to write that much, keep in the plot the entire time and then go on to write 24 more chapters of the same quality, deserves every medal known to man. And with my track record of having read 149 fic's and having read classics like Simarillion, i think i can safely say what good high quality writing is. And can say with confidence that The end of ponies is perhaps the highest quality writing i've read here on Fimfiction. It is deep, it is funny (at times) and it is intense. And i cannot praise it enough. Though nothing would make me happier to know that i'm getting more people to read something truly worth reading. Please, if you have not yet read it, i implore you too.
Wow...look at that wall of text...sheesh i can't believe i wrote all that... But i thank you all so much for reading (those who are reading). I know i can't speak to the entire website and all its users, but it's nice to know these words don't go unread.
Thanks all for reading!
Hehe, actually: YOUR stories' combined chapters have been read 14,265 times. If you look at the stats for your stories you'll see they have 12583 and 1688 views each
And if you look at my profile you'll find that I have "Total chapter views: 0" since I have no posted stories.
(Otherwise you would have read 185 chapters every day! )
Oh and that aside I agree: There are definitely some underappreciated gems out there, but that is pretty much true with all things in life.
3848 hehehe....ooopss....i think i'm going to change that now...
3850 shit... can't change it...
Ahem okay lets just say i read a lot... okay
3852 You can't? I pretty sure you can edit your blogs.
3853 No it seems not. But i'll bring it up with knighty...
I am the one who promised to troll you forevvvveeerrrrrr if Twilight doesn't go back to sunshine and my threat still stands or I can offer you a difrent choice were if sunshine and Twilight don't work out you have to write a Zecora ship fic the same length as this one and can only be shorter by. 3000 words cause Zecora is awesome and doesn't get enough ships also she can't fall for Twilight or a member of the apple family you choose those are the options
