It's been a long December and there's reason to believe...

Maybe this year will be better than the last.

I'd say more, but let's not tempt fate, she seems to be having a rough year too.

    Have you voted yet?

This isn't an endorsement, I have no facts and figures to offer you, no scandals to mention. I'll just say that this election may well be the most noteworthy in quite some time for the turnout, and early voting is still happening tomorrow. If you mailed yours in, check to make sure it was received. If it wasn't, there is still time to vote in person and cancel the mail in. No matter how you do

State of Resolve: Three Years Of Green AMA · 2:49pm Apr 9th, 2015

I am coming up on a third year of writing the longest thing I have ever written (original publish date was 4/17/12) So I thought "What the hell? I see other authors doing this, let's have an AMA."

So, let's do that thing. Have any question relating to Green? Ask away.

Yes, where's my AppleDash, dangit! :flutterrage:

:scootangel:

2964605 It's there, always has been.

2964606 All things considered, it's probably for the best that they're not in the spotlight. Since the spotlight in Green usually means some drama's happening~ :rainbowlaugh:

2964636 This is true. Appledash is the least insane couple.

How much more is left to write?

Will there be side stories?

2012 WASN'T THREE YEARS AGO SHUT UP! :raritycry:

2964699 I thought the main story was already 75% side story.

I kid, I kid.

2964605 I'll try to help you out with a not-at-all-official, questionably written, and certainly unwanted guest side chapter.

::clears throat::

Rainbow Dash worried at her hoof while staring at The Flank. In her mind, it was always capitalized like that, sometimes with a pregnant pause between the two words. The… Flank. Right now, The Flank was bunching and gathering while Applejack tried to dig a stubborn rock out of the field. Beads of sweat rose from her back and fell, tracing glistening, tantalizing trails around perfect curvatures. Rainbow swallowed hard and chewed on her hoof a little more vigorously.

“Hi, Rainbow! How come you're in our bush?”

Rainbow shot into the air, then dove back into the bush when Applejack’s ears perked up. She yanked Apple Bloom in with her just as Applejack turned toward the noise. With her hoof pressed firmly against Apple Bloom’s mouth, Rainbow's breath came in ragged gasps while she waited.

“Gmmrff!” Apple Bloom said, pulling at Rainbow’s hoof.

“Shh!”

Apple Bloom cocked a curious eyebrow up at the pegasus, but sat still.

Rainbow’s heart was hammering in her chest when Applejack finally shrugged and turned back to the rock. Slowly, she let the pressure off of Apple Bloom’s mouth. “Um, this isn’t what it looks like.”

“You ain’t spyin’ on my sister in a bush?” Apple Bloom pulled back a few leaves and peered out. “’Cause that’s what it looks like to me. I mean, she’s right there.”

In the field before them, Applejack swore and threw down the iron rod she’d been using as a lever. Muttering, she pulled off her hat and used its brim to wipe at her streaming brow. Applejack threw the rock one final dirty look, then trotted back toward the farmhouse, yelling for Big Mac.

Rainbow scooched past Apple Bloom when Applejack passed out of her field of vision. “Spying? Me?” Rainbow pushed her head out of the bush. Applejack had just leapt over the south fence on her way to talk to Big Mac. Rainbow shivered. It was a good leap. A really athletic one. A leap that she wanted to run right out and best. Maybe three or four times, just to show Applejack what a real jump looked like. Then maybe Applejack would get that stubborn-but-kinda-really-cute look on her face, and she’d want to put another fence on top of that fence, just to prove that she could jump higher than Rainbow, but—

“Uh, Rainbow, you’re droolin’…”

Rainbow shook her head vigorously, wincing when a line of dangling drool slapped onto Apple Bloom’s face. “Oops. Let me get that.” She mopped up the wetness with her tail, leaving a few multicolored strands clinging to Apple Bloom’s left cheek. Nodding, she gave Apple Bloom a wide smile. “There. Now the important thing is not to tell Applejack about me and this bush.”

Apple Bloom’s brow furrowed. “Uh, why’s that?”

“Well…” Rainbow tapped her hoof a few times, and her wings twitched. “Um, well…” Rainbow perked up suddenly. “It’d, uh, ruin the game!”

“Y’all’re playin’ a game?” Apple Bloom jumped up, her eyes shining. “I wanna play! What is it? Hide ‘n’ Seek? Is that why everypony’s in bushes?”

“No, this is just a game for—Wait.” Rainbow paused, then squinted down at where Apple Bloom was hopping up and down rapidly. “What other ponies in bushes?”

Apple Bloom pushed aside a branch and pointed at a large bush across the field. “Well, Rarity and Fluttershy are over there, but they didn’t want to play. Sounded kinda like they were maybe having some kinda argument for a while, but then…” Apple Bloom covered her mouth with a hoof. “Then things sounded kinda smoochy, so I let ’em alone.”

Apple Bloom pulled Rainbow to a different side and pointed again. “And Pinkie tried to drag Twilight over into that bush for a while, but Twilight kept sayin’ she had some stuff to do, but that she’d be back real soon. Pinkie had this big ol’ basket of cupcakes, and she’s in there eatin’ and doin’ a crossword puzzle.”

Rainbow stared at the bush for a moment, then back down at Apple Bloom. “Really?”

“Yeah, it’s weird.” Apple Bloom offered up a befuddled shrug. “I think half of Ponyville hides in our bushes. Big Mac and I gotta chase ’em out with sticks when the sun’s goin’ down.”

Rainbow glanced back to the farmhouse and bit her lip. “But… but are any of them, you know, maybe watching your sister do stuff?”

“You mean besides you?”

Rainbow’s eyes flew wide. “No! Not like me at all, because I’m not in here spying on Applejack. I’m just waiting for Applejack to walk over here, and then I’m going to jump out and scare her!” Rainbow’s eyes slid out of focus, and she sniggered. “Yeah, or maybe just tackle her, and then I’ll grab her hat and run. Then she’ll chase me, but I’ll be way too fast, and she’ll be yelling—”

“Ooh! Ooh! And then I can get her with the lasso!” Apple Bloom beamed up at Rainbow. “I been practicin’ real hard lately, and I almost never get all tangled up in it anymore. Then you can get away with the hat!”

Rainbow’s spreading smile retreated a bit. “Uh, thanks but no thanks, AB. I gotta win this one alone.”

Your characterization of Pinkie is one of t h e best I have ever read on this site. How did you come up with her in your story? She is one of the hardest characters to write because she is such a deep character with many complex elements.

I found this story a few months ago while looking through a Twinkie group. I almost stopped reading because I thought they broke up. Your use of them as a couple is great because Twinkie is my favorite ship. So I guess I am saying don't break them up please. :flutterrage: Thanks :pinkiehappy:

I would like to see you do a chapter about Pinkie and Twilight's interaction.

That is the only full couple that hasn't really had a chapter together. There has been two interludes about them and their problems, but not together as a couple.

2964765 :rainbowlaugh:

Those silly pones~

2964870 My ship is like a leaky dinghy... :pinkiesad2:

Do you have a planned end-point for Green? I won't ask what it is, just whether you have one.

How hard is it to write consistently on the same thing for three years?

Have your feelings for the ships presented in Green changed or gained new nuances over time?

2964845 Twinkie is a bit unstable. They had a couple close calls, but they pulled through.

2964699 I'm not entirely certain, I have more that I wish to get done, and I will keep writing until I feel the story is complete.

2964913

Yes.

How hard is it to write consistently on the same thing for three years?

Surprisingly easy. It's making time for other stories that has proven difficult, I've had to get a certain number of chapters ahead, then I can justify to my muse that it's okay to work on something else.

Have your feelings for the ships presented in Green changed or gained new nuances over time?

Yes! Green made me ship Raripie. I just adored how Pinkie and Rarity interacted during their scenes. They are sooo cute! I mean, I am still a Flarity shipper, but I love Raripie to bits too.

One of the (many) things I like about your work is the treatment of polyamorous relationships. What inspired you to make that a theme in your writing?

2965061 Well, it really started with the cmc. The idea that if three ponies care about each other and one gets left behind was just abhorrent. The others... developed over time. The Twilestia backstory greatly influenced how Pinkie and Twilight interacted, that was going to come to a head at some point. Luna and Flarity came about because of their chemistry together. I really just adore love triangles, they are rife with conflict, and so much fun to write about.

2965080 What's AMA stand for?

Will there be any further love scenes for Fluttershy and Rarity? :yay::raritywink:

2965336 It means ask me anything.

2965503 Time and author sanity permitting. Such things should be spontaneous and at entirely inappropriate moments.

So.... When is the Lunarishy chapter of "Red"? :trollestia:

Or maybe the Twipielestia chapter? I'd definitely go for that one too.

2966469 Those ships are still under construction.

2966632 Drat!

Well then besides that. You mentioned that you do have an end in mind for Green, do you have any idea of an in universe exploration of the other relationships depicted in the story?

Also with regards to "I love to see you smile" and the follow up, "You make my life worthwhile", Has the future of that series been planned out? IE how much more adorable/angsty/sexy Rarishy Pie can we look forward to?

2966698 worthwhile has a bit of story left to wrap up. it was planned as a three part series from the beginning, the third part addressing Twilight's crush.

2965658 In that case, will there be anymore chapters added to Red: The Color of Passion or not?

With more than twenty posts already and me not having gotten to reading yet, I won't know for sure if it's been asked yet but anyway: What gave you the idea for it?

(I know I've told you it's something that brings me grief, but I at least want to change that starting now :pinkiesad2:)

2967978 Well, back when I was still writing SYGW (So You've Grown WIngs, a very silly comedy written back when Twilight becoming an alicorn was just a fan theory), I had this notion for a romance I could write while I was taking brief breather getting ready to end the aforementioned story. It started off with what I expected to be 4-5 chapters of outlining, and then... one of the readers mentioned that they were interested in what was going on with the other ponies. That... gave me a lot of ideas. 3 years and nearly 300,000 words later, I still have ideas.

2967994 Hmm, okay.

So if I may press you further, it doesn't upset you by "lunatic's pursuit"? Because I also get to thinking that of the whole imagination thing, though that's more of an on and off situation than actually reviewing.

2969107 nah, choosing to write requires a certain degree of insanity.

2970084 I guess that's why I don't feel cut out for it then. :scootangel: But the other part of that last message, waiting until the end of the year or longer before really getting over my grief with other's thoughts and feelings conflicting with my own, is something I believe can happen. Just not yet, though.
