    Sincere Shilling!

If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

I believe this should be classified as a crackfic, though a somewhat tame one by most measurements of that sort of thing. It was amusing, if a little too long for the joke.

The Golden Armor by Comet Burst

I didn’t finish this one. Was just too bland, cliche, and full of fanfiction mistakes. I got up to the point where the main character, a idealist introvert who joined the royal guard, is having a bad day. He gets bullied, is saved by Shining Armor who then takes him to see Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. All of which happens on his very first day of royal guard training. Given the name of the main character is the same as the author’s fimfiction name, I’d have to say it looks like the story is a by-the-numbers self-insert wish fulfillment. Not the worst I’ve seen, but still not very good.

The Carousel Boutique Expansion Project by A Fistful of Apples

Huh. That was dark. Not sure why, but going into this I was under the impression this was a light comedy. Whoops. Very well written. Some nitpicks, but the general high quality makes it worth reading. It even feels like MLP to a certain extent. Like the story itself isn’t, but this seems like a possible off-screen series of events if the characters ever escaped the child-friendly rails the show is trapped on.

Swayback Mountain by butterscotchsundae

This isn’t very good. It’s no crime against literature, but it is filled with plenty of bad writing. I wouldn’t recommend this even for big Applejack and Rarity shipping fans.

Shame at the Checkout by gmen15
[story link] [my original review]

Huh. Not really a story for entertainment. Very much a targeted for the fandom (or at least for certain fans) type of deal. Not bad for what it is, the writing seems solid enough. I’ve certainly felt this way at times, so the emotion in the story is realistic enough. Just never really felt that way about buying stuff, even MLP (or just non-standard for my age/gender) items. Still, this is worth a read if you do have those moments of hesitation about letting your fandom show in public.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
