"Iridescent Iron Rat" reading! · 11:15am Jun 14th, 2015

I returned from the wilderness this weekend, having managed to avoid falling down scary glacial cliffsides, to discover that fanfic audio reader Illya Leonov has once again paid me the honor of creating a marvelous audiobook from one of my works!

This time, it's The Iridescent Iron Rat, my homage to Harry Harrison's classic science-fiction heistfic. The reading covers all three chapters, over an hour in total — and, as a bonus, includes additional voicework by Scribbler.

Here's the first chapter:

Chapter 1: Youtube / Soundcloud
Chapter 2: Youtube / Soundcloud
Chapter 3: Youtube / Soundcloud

You might remember Illya from his previous readings of The Dragon's Riddle and Melt (as well as dozens of fandom classics: the recent Riverdream at Sunset reading is also great). I'm thrilled that I'm writing well enough to keep getting this sort of attention — as far as I can tell, this makes me the author he's audiobooked the most stories from (three of mine to Device Heretic's two).

I'll try to cobble together a trip report tomorrow. I've got the photos downloaded to my computer, but I've got to stitch together the panoramas I took of all the amazing views!

In other news, was today's episode great or what? I don't even care that Secret Agent Sweetie Drops blows all my fanon about her out of the water — I'm going to really enjoy finding ways to work that into my upcoming stories.

great story (found through the reading on soundcloud)

I especially like your ideas on how to use magic

A third one? My, my. Seems you've got quite a fan in good ol' Illya. Your style of writing and his manner of reading seem to make a good match.

Good to have you back in one piece.

I'm not sure if episode 100 was the best episode, but it's certainly one of the best things the show has done, if the distinction makes sense.

Sounds like I had a similar week to you! Except my mountains weren't so scary. I did about 45 miles of the Appalachian Trail. It was fun, but I have no desire to thru hike the thing. I did meet a number of interesting thru hikers on my way, though
