A Trivial Pursuit Reaction and Description

A Trivial Pursuit, episode 16 of Season 9, written by Brittany Jo Flores. If I were to summarize this episode in just a couple words I think I would say... meme faces. This one is chocked full of 'em, as well as not so subtle references to shipping. I'd also say the writer (who also wrote Once Upon a Zeppelin), as well as the storyboard artists probably had a lot of fun with this one :)

Right in the feelz. That's the phrase I'd use to describe this one ^^

I really dig MA Larson's writing. Most of the episodes he's written for MLP have been enjoyable (say what you will about Slice of Life, I like it, same goes for Ponyville Confidential ^^). I don't get why he sometimes gets a bad wrap, unless the critics are being facetious. Anywho...

So Twilight realizes she wasn't a very good friend to all her old gal pals in Canterlot, and goes back to the castle to mend her old friendships. Good, promising idea... and it's well executed, maybe a lil contrived towards the end, but it works out okay.

The good:

I really like Twilight's super-optimistic friend Minuet (hope to see more of her ^^), it's also cool to hear some of Twilight's old friends have jobs that sound, well... like boring, ol' jobs. I also like the fact that there's been all this stuff going on around Twilight and her other nerds friend that neither noticed because of how wrapped up they were in their own interests. It's a moral that's been done before, but isn't the entire focus here -- life is in the small moments, and by seeing more than what's right in front of you, you can absorb the big picture. All these memories Twilight's old friends have she doesn't... that's pretty effective to show the consequences of that type of focus. It's pretty heavy, considering how light and fun MLP tends to be.

The bad:

Not too much to say. I dislike the overuse of the word "friendship", as it starts to sound a little forced, but it doesn't go on for too long. Also, this would be a perfect situation and place for the table to send Twilight to, as the power of friendship can mend a lot of the issues here, but for some crazy reason... it doesn't. Twilight comes here of her own fruition, and for impulsive (but not contrived) reasons.

All in all, good episode. Not the best, but still pretty enjoyable.

Peace
