    Still On Hiatus

Yeah, what I wrote last time still stands. So stop asking me when I'll be back on, everyone. I'll tell you when I'll be back.

    Hiatus

I’m going on hiatus because I have some personal business to take care of. I’ll make a big announcement when I’m back. Until then, you can message me but don’t expect an immediate response.

Thus we have come to my final Song of the Day! It has been a lot of fun taking you guys through my widely varied and eclectic musical tastes this month. I might continue posting songs once in a while, but it won’t be daily. Have a good one!

Computer’s been nuked! :O · 6:06am Jul 23rd, 2015

Yup, my computer died! Again. And this time I’m not sure if there’s a way of bringing it back, I don’t know where the nearest computer repair shop is that does work on Windows 7 models. I’ve checked a few and they only seem to work on Windows 8. Which is shitty, I really don’t want to update to Windows Shite.

Hopefully I can find one that can help me. If it’s gone for good, that would suck. All my files are on there (I haven’t backed up for a long time) and I would have to re-register for the Adobe and Microsoft Office suites, plus the price of a computer. It would be expensive and ever since Dana lost her job (which she only had for a few weeks) we’re not exactly in a good financial situation.

This should provide an update for all fans of ONAS, or anyone wondering why I haven’t been on Skype for a few days. Meanwhile, if I’m online I’ll be using Dana’s PC or my cellphone.

"They work only on Windows 8"
Well then they're pretty shitty stores, aren't they? I myself am using 8.1 and have no gripes about it, but fixing a computer is usually pretty easy, even from scratch (I do that for my friends from time to time).
I'd love to help you out but... the distance kinda kills it :ajbemused:

So this happened. Oh, ffs, what else will come?
Btw Kirb, you would be better with a brand new laptop. Just save your files onto an external hardrive.

You're tempting fate, pal.

i agree...windows 7 is awesomeness
windows 8 is straight shit

3262496
I'm on Windows 8.1 and I have no problems with it. Is it an improvement over 7? No, but it's not "straight shit".

3262050 Yeah, it's pretty shite. It doesn't help that I'm still pretty new to Toronto, and still don't know exactly where everything is yet. :facehoof:
Eh, well thanks for the support anyway. I still have access to Google Docs, so I'll try to finish ONAS chapter 18 using Dana's PC or other computers.

3262060 Eh... Zeph, hate to say it but there are a few problems with that. First of all, I've tried using Windows 8 (or as I call it, Windows Mierda) and I cannot get used to how different everything looks from Windows 7. The lack of a Start menu, the new browser interface and name changes for everything, how it's trying to make itself more like a smartphone, it's all weird for me.
Aside from that, we really don't have enough money atm to spend on a new computer. Dana's still unemployed, and besides, buying a new computer would mean re-ordering for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Flash, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro), many of which I use for work and/or in my daily life. So until I can afford that, I'll just have to get my laptop fixed. (If the mechanic I find is good enough, then I may not need to get it fixed again!)
Meanwhile, I'll try to use Dana's computer when she isn't using it. Trust me, I certainly miss being online :pinkiesad2:

You're tempting fate, pal.

How so? Sorry, I'm a little lost here :twilightsheepish:

3262496 Yup. If I ever do get a computer, chances are I'll wait until Windows 10 comes out--I've heard it's better than Windows Mierda. :pinkiesick:

Oh, ffs, what else will come?

In other words, what else can go wrong.

3264393
Like I said, I run Windows 8.1 and I don't experience any problems. I guess it all depends on how one takes care of their computer.

3264412 Ah XD Sorry, I didn't know which part of Zeph's comment you were responding to.

And you have a point about Windows Mierda. The computers I used with that operating system were school laptops that were used by most students in the school. They were so bad that, by 11th grade, I'd started bringing my laptop to school at least twice per week, and in the 12th grade I don't think I ever used any of the school computers except for printing. :rainbowlaugh:

3264612
The tech guys should've been fired if they couldn't keep those machines maintained. In my opinion, a computer should be treated like a car.

3264393

and besides, buying a new computer would mean re-ordering for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Flash, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro)

Not true, as long as you have only one activation at a time, you can transfer them from computer to computer
But it's always good to ask beforehand. I know that Microsoft and Adobe products are transferable unless they're OEM (bound to a specific motherboard once activated)
If they're not OEM, you can transfer easily!

As for 8.1 - you can boot straight to desktop without needing to spend any time whatsoever in the Metro UI (in fact, I use it only as a fullscreen start menu) and as for the "weird browser interface" - use a different browser than Internet Exploder and you're all set.
But 10's just around the corner, so you might want to wait for that instead. It's gonna be great, I used the preview version and really liked what I saw.

3264393
Well... we play the Waiting Game then.

...

:/

3265502 Hey, at least the Waiting Game is more plausible than Friendship Games.
(Still can't believe the first two EQG movies were popular enough for that to become a thing :facehoof:)

3265075 I've tried transferring all my MS Office programs to another computer before, it doesn't ever work. As for Adobe, I discovered that since I'm an Adobe member, I can register for all the programs as part of the "Creative Cloud" or whatever, so that's always nice I suppose.
As I've said before, just the concept of a full-screen Start menu is confusing to me, it's not as easy to go back to everything else--and Microsoft seems to agree, they're apparently bringing back the Start menu in 10. I've heard from a few people that it's pretty good so far. Interesting, I've noticed that for a while I've disliked every other Windows operating system, but loved all the other ones: for example, I liked XP, but didn't like Vista, then I loved 7, and from having used Windows 8 before I can't stand it (though those were the school's public laptops, so maybe those were just poorly maintained), so if 10 follows that pattern, then I'm in for something good. :pinkiehappy:
And about browsers, I was actually referring to the computer browser Windows Explorer (now called "File Explorer" I hear), the folders have all been changed and stuff, it's really... bleh. Though speaking of Internet Explorer, I hear they're getting rid of it and creating a new web browser--is that true?

3264798 I agree. So many people who just use computers and stuff as paperweights and throw them around, it makes me sad, especially with the lack of resources to make those with. And considering that these laptops were used by all the students, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them installed Minecraft or something on one of the laptops. :ajbemused:
Funny enough, my uncle seems to agree with you, and has no limits: he still maintains a fairly fast running Windows 98! :rainbowderp:

Ah, I see. That's strange, I keep transferring my licenses up and down between computers without any issues. Maybe you have an OEM Office license or something...

Yeah I hear you about the 8 - from the start I wasn't impressed either, but after I worked with it for a bit, I liked it. And once 8.1 came around, it was great.
Yeah the school laptops must've been poorly maintained - in general, 8 runs better on laptops than 7.
About the folders - I don't think I know what you're talking about with changes to the filders in file explorer. Just set it to tiles and you're good to go. If you don't want to see the documents icons when you open My Computer, it's easy to hide as well (although you need to use a registry edit for that).
Needless to say, the newer system has some game specific optimizations, so newer games usually run better on 8.1 than they do on 7.

I've given 10 Preview a go once more yesterday just for fun through dual boot, tested it thoroughly.
There is a LOT to look forward to - they haven't just done strides, they've made a progress akin to traversing an ocean. Game performance is equal to 8.1, if not a bit better. And once DX12 rolls around.... it's gonna be a massacre.

And yeah, they're ditching Internet Explorer in favour of Edge. Not bad at all - although IE 11 is not a bad browser by itself anymore, it just gets a lot of flak only because of its history. I always uninstall IE from system anyway :rainbowlaugh:

So yeah, all in all, definitely a worthy upgrade. I'm getting really impatient for it.
I know I have to wait, BUT AH WANT IT NAO! :applecry:

3267756
Nice. I used to have a Compaq Presario that ran Windows 98, had it for nearly a decade before leaving it behind during a move.

I can't wait until Wednesday either.
