The 70th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombings · 5:11am Aug 10th, 2015

Today is the anniversary of the United States dropping Fat Man on Nagasaki. Wednesday, it was the anniversary of dropping Little Boy on Hiroshima. Since then the cities have been rebuilt and re populated in the last seventy years. We remember the days as victories, a swift end to the war. Others see it as a sign, that human beings are able to use weapons of mass destruction. There are others who view it as a great sin. Regardless of my view I give my condolences to the survivor families.

Was it really a victory? Sure, the war was over, but no one truly won. Furthermore, while the Nagasaki bomb was used to end the war, the Hiroshima bomb was absolutely unforgivable. Why? Because, to my limited knowledge, the Little Boy was an experimental bomb the Americans wanted to test, and where else to test it than in a city with live lab rats?

It was disgusting.

Horrific though it was, i'd consider it a necessary evil.

That being said, my heart goes out to anyone effected by either of the bombs.

Russia was about to declare war on Japan prior to the 2nd Atomic bomb. So, essentially, it was the US with their bomb to tell Russia to "Back off; we have a weapon and we aren't afraid to use it."

I would recommend former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's book, Fog of War. He talks about the use of the atomic bombs to end World War II, Keep the Russians from entering the Pacific Theater and to save American lives.

The Japanese had a fanatical cult of Personality of their Emperor, Hiritio, and even after the Hiroshima bombing, they wouldn't surrender, The 2nd bomb convinced them to surrender.
