Night Flight, Twilight's Sparkle's Adventurous Uncle
Family Name: Night. Personal Name: Flight. Use-Name: Night Flight, Flighty
Kind: Pegasus. Sex: Male. Born: 1447 Died: 1495 (?)
Coat: Dark Purple. Mane: Light Purple with Light Blue Streaks, worn long. Eyes: Dark PurpleViolet.
Cutie Mark: Slitted Yellow Eyes under White Wings on Black Field.
Talents: Night vision, nocturnal navigation, high intelligence.
Appearance: Night Flight wore his mane long, tied back and braided rather elaborately by the standards of a stallion. Liked to wear silk shirts, leather helmets and goggles; sometimes also leather jackets and jodhpurs. He was wiry and athletic even in middle age.
Personality: An adventurous dreamer, who always felt he must go beyond the safe and known into dangerous and unknown realms in search of new or forgotten things. This is even more atypical a personality for a Pony than a Human. Adventurous in love as in exploration, he sampled all sorts of pleasures and never settled down. He was courageous, cool in dangerous situations, and curious about everything.
Relationships: Night Light (older brother), Twilight Velvet (sister-in-law), Shining Armor and Twilight Sparkle (nephew and niece), Daring Do (friend, reputed lover), Night Dancer (first cousin). Numerous friends, lovers, ex-lovers, enemies, rivals and other contacts all over the Earth.
History: Born the younger son in his family, he knew himself to be of very minor importance in the normal course of affairs, so he steered an abnormal one. He joined the Night Rangers and repeatedly volunteered for long-range patrols and missions of exploration. He carried out dangerous and important missions for the Midnight Patrol.
Night Flyer was also a gifted writer of both fiction and non-fiction. He wrote under the nom de plume "One-Tone Expy" (accompanied by a cute little black-and-white self-portrait sketch), penning non-fictional accounts of his explorations and dreamy science-fantasies about other worlds,of which The Little Princess (about an Alicorn from the Asteroid Belt who travels widely and visits the Earth) is the most famous.
In 1495 he disappeared, on a semi-secret mission for Equestria, in the depths of the Badlands. His remains have never been found.
And as we all know, "They never found the body" is writer code for "He somehow survives and is going to reappear at a plot-critical moment"
...This is foreshadowing something important, isn't it?
By the way, is Shining Armor's wedding uniform Night Flight's, or another uncle's?
Night Flight is Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
You might want to rethink the leather as ponies are herbivores.

An inspiration for him, yes. The Ponies don't have to consume meat to use leather, as they're not the only sapients on their world.
Perhaps he'll show up at some point to finally settle the hash of somepony like Starlight Glimmer whose sole talent is making things worse.
