    Stories resubmitted

    Hello,

I hit the resubmit button on my old stories "Lick," "The Art of Falling," and "Sapphire" because someone asked me to. I don't remember exactly why I unsubmitted them or when. They should be visible on the site again.

    Enjoy the finale.

    Best,
    HBAO

I finished Some Hugs Last Longer Than Others

A long time ago, years ago actually, I said I'd finish my last fic. I did try a few times, a couple different finished versions have existed. But they were all terrible. Some Hugs was a problem story from the very beginning. The concept seemed like comedy gold. Pinkie Pie glues herself to Rainbow Dash. Hilarity ensues.

How was the Friendship is Magic movie?

So there was a Friendship is Magic movie released semi-recently? I haven't seen it, but I was looking around for fans of the show's reactions, and I can't seem to find much discussion anywhere. Did we all hate it, or what?

Writing is Dumb - Part Two of the Story of the Story of Spring is Dumb

Once upon a time, I started a full making-of-style commentary of the creation of Spring is Dumb. The first part describing the prewriting of the story looked like this. Now, about two

    I published a story!

Your favorite fimfic author is taking his very first tippety toe baby step toe touch into the wild and wonderful world of original fiction publishing, and that first step is this thing, which you can find here. Might look very familiar if you participated in the Writeoff's

S5-19 The One Where Pinkie Knows - Reactions · 7:58pm Oct 18th, 2015

So I'm doing these again. Yay.

- Opening
- So, the conflict is that Pinkie has to keep something a secret? At first I thought, ‘Cool, a little generic, but good promise for silliness and a fun fit for Pinkie’ and then I thought, ‘Wait, wasn’t there that episode that one time about Twilight keeping secrets and Pinkie Pie was all like, “Hey, Twi, shut your big mouth, promises are promises.”’ Just feels a little weird that Pinkie would be having problems keeping secrets after she lectured Twilight about it all that time ago.
- Maybe the difference is that Twilight had made a promise to her friends, and Pinkie is just keeping a secret so it can be a surprise? But even then, hasn’t Pinkie thrown like a million surprise parties? Seems like she’d be well versed in secret-surprise-keeping by now.
- It’s not really a problem, just a little lack of consistency.

- Rarity says blah blah blah and forever
- Huh, so I guess the staff didn’t forget about that other episode, but gave Rarity Pinkie’s role instead. Sort of a weird switcheroo. Probably would have been more fun if it had been Twilight turning it back on Pinkie, but whatever.

This is a screen cap of a shenanigan.

- General shenanigans at Twilight’s ugly castle
- This is fun. Lots of good little gags

- Baby carrots are Shining Armor’s favorite
-Well that just might be the lamest favorite food I’ve ever heard of anyone having ever.
- But I guess they are horses. Their palette is limited.

- More general shenanigans around Ponyville.
- This is also fun. It’s a very cartoony episode, but this show does classic Loony Toons style humor well.

This is another screencap of a shenanigan.

- Pinkie’s friends trying to be nice and get her to talk about what’s bothering her is really sweet. All she has to say though is, ‘I have to keep a secret, even from you, and it’s really hard.’

- That little montage of Shining Armor seeing his surprise might be one of the funniest things this show has ever done.
- Also, Pinkie’s ‘We get it, you like books!’ Been waiting for someone to say it for a while. Like, seriously. It’s been five seasons. We get it. You can shut up about books now, Twilight.

This is a screencap that moves.

- Scavenger hunt shenanigans
- This is really fun

- Conclusion
- I don’t have much to say about this one. It’s a fluffy, silly little episode. A bit generic, very unambitious, but a lot of fun to watch. Really, I think I wish there were more episodes like this one. A lot of episodes have a tendency to try to do too much. It’s nice to just let a cartoon be a cartoon sometimes.

I agree about it possibly making more sense for Twilight to be the one who turned it around on Pinkie - or possibly even that the letter had mentioned some sort of secret that Twilight got excited for.

Though I have to admit, with the episode as it was, I was half-expecting Pinkie Pie to screw it up, blurt out the secret... and then Twilight knew all along.

Glad that wasn't what happened, but it would have still been funny.

I loved Pinkie Pie getting increasingly frenetic at the end of the episode - really, Pinkie Pie was delightful all episode long.

One odd thing that someone noted - and I agree with - I actually felt some real tension about Pinkie Pie keeping her secret, because it felt like there was the real possibility that she might actually fail. As they said, in a low-stakes episode, failure becomes more of a possibility because the consequences of failure aren't so dire, which was an interesting observation.

In my feed, I read S5-19 as SS-19, which was a Soviet Union ICBM.

My biggest fear that stems from this episode is that we have already seen clues via Hasbro's toys as to Shining Armor and Cadance having a foal. Unfortunately, the toy is a demon spawn C'Thulhu straight out of Tartarros and Alicorn foal.

So help me Luna, if Cadance pops out a little Alicorn, I am gonna repeatedly shove that demonic thing back inside of her until it comes out right! A Pegasus or Unicorn foal would be perfectly acceptable. (An Earth Pony foal would just be proof that Cadance sleeps around.)

I felt like the situation was different enough from Green Isn't Your Color to merit a different episode. Green Isn't Your Color was as much about not meddling in other people's friendships/relationships when you've been asked not to as it was keeping secrets. (Though they couldn't really say that, because half of the show is about meddling in other people's relationships when they've been asked not to.)

This one was more about not spoiling surprises, which is sort of a different issue. The promise wasn't as important as that the surprise would have been ruined. If someone tells you about a birthday or Christmas present for someone else, or you know the ending of a movie, it's the same situation even though no one promised not to tell.

I'm not sure why an alicorn foal would be such a big deal. According to Faust and extended universe canon, Celestia and Luna were both born alicorns. We don't actually have any coherent canon alicorn rules, really.

3480056 Unless the extended universe gets directly referenced by the show, (IWE comics, The Sisters book, and the EqG movies, ect) I do not consider it to be canon, and considering how badly they conflict half the time, making them canon would only further muddle things I believe. Also, Fause said... yeah, Lauren Faust, who also said that Pegasi were powered by their own farts. :facehoof:

I don't particularly care one way or the other, I just recognize that in a situation where they haven't stated it in canon, and where they have stated it in EU (especially since it was in the book written by Amy Keating Rogers,) and since it gives Hasbro the chance to have another canon Princess, there's probably going to be a baby alicorn.

I'm just still not sure why that's something to be upset about.

I don't think this episode is very similar to Green Isn't Your Color. I do think Pinkie Pie's role in this episode is a little inconstant with her role in Green Isn't Your Color, though. One she's all about keeping secrets, the other she struggles with keeping secrets.
