Time for another commission!
This one was done at the request of Auramane, and will serve as the coverart for a Twilight x Moondancer fic. There are a few things of note in this image...
This version of Moondancer is based more on the appearance of the character in the comics, and the overall idea predates Amending Fences. After the episode aired I asked if I could combine the pre-episode design with the new look, to create something more unique. This is the pre-episode appearance on which the character was based:
I asked if I could mix the appearances in such a way that Moondancer looked like some kind of hip, young professional. Before doing the above image I did a considerable number of sketches.
That was the first real quality sketch of her design that I did. Click below the break for more notes on the design as well as a few more process sketches and other stuff.
The scarf was just a nice accessory, since I thought she needed something. I decided to give her slightly "hipper" glasses, and went with frames similar to those worn by architect I.M Pei.
They're distinct, and are not like regular "hipster" type glasses.
As for the scene, I was asked to draw her looking out a window, with Twilight in the distance on her balcony.
Here are two initial sketches testing out the overall composition of the scene;
A few details were changed between the two sketches, but the overall idea is the same.
The final image was drawn on the usual type of illustration board I use. 16 x 20 cold press, using Copic multiliners and black india ink with brushes and metal nib/quill pens. It was then scanned and colored in photoshop. I livestreamed a few of the coloring sessions.
The detailing on Moondancers window frame is very roughly inspired by some of the details on the windowframes of Frank Lloyd Wright's houses.
The color, the weight, the geometric shapes, etc. It's subtle, but it's there. I do wish I had pushed it farther, but did not want an overly ornate window to distract from the rest of the image.
Anyway, there you have it: Moondancer!
Very pretty. I remember you showing me this earlier.
