Where did Rey disappear to now? · 2:12am Feb 22nd, 2016
So I've wandered off to Space engineers once more, and once more it's sucked me in. I'll be getting back to Sub soon, as I've had a few ideas and now know how to get over the latest hump, but let me learn you guys some things...
THINGS I'VE LEARNED ABOUT BUILDING SPACE SHIPS ON PLANETS:
1:unlike in space, if you don't lock it down, the ship will tip over while you're building it, leaving you angry and frustrated.
2: it is possible to suffocate while surrounded by air. If you leave your helmet on, it drains your internal air supply. If you get into a closed cockpit, you are considered inside an airtight space.
3: unlike thrusters, wheels can be attached upside down or sideways. Make sure they're attached correctly, or when you try to steer, your wheels will move up and down instead of turning left and right.
4: Cyber-hounds are not cute, they will run up to you and chew on your face when you are mining. They will also chew on everything they can reach if your face is not readily available, but should you give them the chance, they will always take your face over whatever makes up your base.
5: solar panels and batteries are your friend.
6: trees and loose rocks are not your friends.
7:Make sure your station/base is phased with at least a bit of it in the ground or it will be considered loose. I had my station tip over because I built some heavy stuff on one side. That was unpleasant.
Finally, 8: don't get frustrated, even if you need to start a new game. After all, some screw-ups are just too massive to fix with duct-tape, bubble gum, and happy thoughts. Sometimes you need to delete the file

In any case, I look forward to the next chapter. :3
Are you playing on a public sever or single player server? I'd love to join you if it is public
EDIT: Also are you getting that glitch where your ship gets launched into the planet at mach fucking 1 by the hand of god?
3769454
I have. I built a large ship rover and when I was almost done, it twitched and stopped with it balanced on it's rear. the gyros' it had couldn't tip it back onto it's wheels
3769488 That sucks and I'm sorry
But not what I meant. I've lost like 4 medium sized ships due to just flying along and then suddenly I'm launched into the planet at upwards of 1000m/s. The game is glitchy but soo fun
Have you tried playing a game on Byond called Space Station 13? You might like it because it's kind of like Space Engineers.
I recommend if the project is small using copy and paste, as well as merger blocks.
3769535
It's OK. It only had 1 gyro and all I had to do was remove a few blocks to make it tip back down. In fact it only had light damage to the back anyway. The only really bad thing was I was standing underneath it when it was tipping back onto its wheels.
So, wait, is space engineers not shit anymore? I remember playing for hours and literally getting nowhere. Also, planets? Phase through ground? These concepts confuse me.
3769454 I tend to run my own game, and it's set to friends as well. I have most of my information on my user page if you'd like to join in, even helped someone else learn to play that game. Just send me a PM on fim to let me know, I get rep spammers all the time.
3769488 It's weird having to make sure the craft has a proper center of mass. Never worried about that with my space ships.
3769535 I have only made one flyer so far, and I accidentally the plane. It's gone, but due to my trying to stick a mining drill on it, not glitches
3769600 I have not, may look later though. Space engineers is killing my free time ATM.
3769766 Oh boy, I almost did that, but have managed to avoid such stupidity so far. That plane I blew up did hit a solar panel tower though, and that destroyed the cockpit. Before I could figure out what happened, something landed on me and killed me
3769916 Keen added planets to the game. It's weird building in a gravity well, but it works. By phasing, I mean you place a block where some part of it is in the ground. Kinda like the space stations, how you can build a block into the astroids, anchoring your platform/ship to it. This keeps the base from listing and rolling about when you add to it, as it's anchored to the planet.
3769919 Cool, maybe I'll give it another try one of these days.
'Course, I'd intended to do a full interstellar run in KSP some day too, so...
3769917 My body is ready
3769917 I see. Well have fun playing.
ALWAYS BUILD ON STATION BLOCKS!
3770241 You can build where-ever the hell you want, just make sure that you build the landing gear fully, then add a single steel block and an access pad. Use the pad to lock the landing gear. Voila! no more tipping ships! You can also use steel blocks to build a ship off of your station. When it's ready, break the connection between them. It will let you charge the batteries on your large ship using the stations power-grid.
3770742
My advice is multiplayer based.
In multiplayer servers, setting your landing gear on planet voxels will cause your ship to shudder at regular intervals with increasing intensity over time.
3771003 I was unaware of that. I'll keep it in mind.
3769375 Amen! Rey, never think any mess is to big for duct tape!
3776799 *mentally pictures DC ruins in fallout 3...
