Possible New Theory: Princess Flurry Heart · 3:44am Mar 30th, 2016
This post has to do with the new season of My Little Pony and does contain some information about it. Not exactly spoilers in itself to me (especially since Flurry Heart was shown to be an alicorn in the advertisements), but just in case, it will be below the break.
Over a year ago, I wrote a theory in a blog post about how the Cake twins might have been altered from earth ponies by Discord and his chaos magic.
In the most recent episode, the season six premiere The Crystalling, Princess Cadance and Shining Armor had their baby, which happens to be an alicorn. The thing is that everyone was surprised. When it was being discussed, this came up:
Princess Celestia: The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen!
Princess Luna: It is beyond even our understanding.
While I find this interesting because it indicates that Celestia and Luna were not born alicorns, but had ascended, it leaves a question of how Flurry Heart could be born as one.
I have come up with a theory, and yes, it does involve magic.
The theory: the Rainbow Power of Harmony that The Mane Six used on Tirek.
While the pregnancy was announced late in season five, for the baby to have been born at the start of season six, Cadance would have gotten pregnant shortly after the wedding, which means she would have been pregnant in season four (although possibly unaware of it?). As such, Flurry Heart would have been there when Cadance and the others gave their magic to Twilight, and -- more importantly -- she would also be exposed to The Rainbow Power when The Mane Six used it to restore all the ponies in Equestria. Thus, she would be exposed to a massive amount of pure magic that contained traits from all three of the main tribes. Combine that with the fact that her mother is an alicorn, and it could explain how Flurry Heart came to be born as one when it has never happened before.
Alternatively, it could be due to the fact that Cadance's magic was combined with three other alicorn's and would have trace amounts which could affect her or the unborn baby. You could even tie it back to Discord and Chaos magic because Tirek had gotten his magic as well as the alicorns' so they would all be mixed together.
Headcanon accepted. I'm inclined to believe more in the Rainbow Power theory myself, but they're all plausable, especially with her genetic background, and all.
It is also possible the princesses meant Flurry Heart is the first Equestrian born alicorn and don't even understand their own origins of birth as if they didn't have alicorn parents or were born a different way like creation poof out of nothing with massive amounts of magic instead of birth from a womb. Plus there's the fact Equestria in of itself didn't exist when the princesses were born as it hadn't been founded yet. It's never stated how or when the princesses were born but did the journal of 2 sisters state their age state by the time they were chosen to rule by the 3 rulers? Like say Filly, teen, young adult, ect.
This sorta works. For Celestia and Luna though, it's possible they were born alicorns, just before Equestria was a thing.
Or people took her meaning at the literal level. Celestia said "Equestria", which could still mean they were born alicorns. As for Luna's line, perhaps this is the first time an alicorn and a nonalicorn had a foal together.
