Blog Post #011-24042016: Unfinished Fanfiction #1- Greenfire · 6:30pm Apr 24th, 2016
In the long history of fan-fiction, nothing irritates a reader more when one of their favorite ongoing stories just stops. There many reasons for this, ranging from author losing interest, personal reasons or just plain moving on to another hobby. Whatever the reason, it leaves readers hanging. Sometimes the author gives the reader their reasons for stopping or leave no reason at all. There is a hope that someone will continue the fic, though they have to get the original author's consent to do so. Of the top of my head, Love and Regret (Ranma 1/2 Fanfiction) and The Mercy of Prime (Transformers Animated Fanfiction) come to mind when I think of unfinished fanfiction that were left unfinished. You just hate to see these stories unfinished but it is what it is.
For today's blog, I give you Greenfire by TrueBlueSpark, a Sparity fanfiction. This story is what is called a divergent, meaning something from the established MLP:FIM story diverted. In this case, the dragon egg that Twilight Sparkle hatched to pass her entrance exam for the School of Gifted Unicorns never made it to the school and somehow was lost and hatched prematurely in the wild. What resulted was Spike, called Greenfire in this story, living on his own and raising himself. He lives off of what he can find, educates himself from books he has stolen from travelers and like any other dragon, has a horde of jewels and other treasures in his cave.
Greenfire's life was pretty lonely...until he meets Rarity.
Rarity and Greenfire's relationship gets off on a rocky start, what with her stumbling into his cave and him threatening to roast her alive. As the fic goes on, the fashionista and the lonely dragon start to get along and become friends despite their differences and how they do things. Spike is rough around the edges and finds Rarity weird because she uses the jewelry she finds to adorn clothes while he'd rather eat them. As for Rarity, she finds Greenfire to be not like the dragons she has heard about, well not really because as protective as he is about his horde, Greenfire can be friendly when he wants to be.
Sadly, it's been more than two years since this fic has been updated and I really would have wanted to see this fic written to its conclusion, considering what happened between Rarity and Greenfire in the last chapter. I would have liked to see what the fallout of the Summer Sun Celebration would have been like in this story. One of the questions I asked myself is if Twilight Sparkle would have been involved in this story and if she was actually taught by Princess Celestia herself, given that she had no egg to hatch in her exam. So many questions.
Anyway, I recommend that you read this fic and leave some comments on TrueBlueSpark's page. The fic deserves some love.
