Have you tried plugging the monitor into the motherboard and using the integrated GPU? If the lines disappear you can confirm the video card is bust.

4150912 I have no idea how to do that or what a GPU is. Also, my hands slightly shake constantly due to a birth defect and I don't trust myself to handle stuff as fragile as computer innards.

hopefully u don't get my problem. paid someone to fix my laptop, screen itself went black, but the thing was still running even without visual. could tell with sound. guy didn't fix it, week and 100 dollars after i got it back screen went out again.

4151032 GPU is the video card. Usually the monitor is connected to the video card, but you can also plug it in the motherboard instead and use integrated graphics card instead of video card.

This way you could check whether your video card is dying or whether the fault is in something else.
