This thread kinda bugged me, gore/dark/horror seemed to not fit the show.
Aeluna made a good point that these elements can fit.
I started to think about what I'm writing.
Am I really writing MLP fanfiction or am I just writing stories about colored talking horses with no notion of friendship is magic.
Or as someone once said "File off the serial numbers and just go original."
Am I just wasting my time?

Write what you want to write. Its too far for them, everyone has different tases dude.
Oh, that is the silliest thread.
One has daydreams about the ponies. One sees little reason not to write them down.
Anyway, fanfic is excellent writing practice.

It's somewhat easier to get an editor/proofer here than on DA.

It's harder to get an editor/proofer.
You have to post chapters and link them up yourself.
But there are good things too.
No downvotes. It's just views and favs.
You don't have to worry about people downvoting for no reason other than they're
mean or they don't have time to explain what's wrong.
You will know that a story is not popular when the views don't go
above one hundred and there are no favs.
Less folks bitching about anthros or if your story fits the MLP vibe.
Less problems with 'purists'.

Make sure your story is cleaned up.
It should have very few errors.
This way folks don't complain.
Even on DA, someone might complain.
