Magnetic Videography - Avco Embassy

Some films listed here originally began with a pre-1968 Embassy Pictures logo. Either it was intact, or replaced with the 1968-1981 Avco Embassy logo, sometimes with the television version.

Usually, the Magnetic Avco Embassy releases had a copyright notice at the very end of the film. Notably, several titles, such as Homebodies (1974), Jury of One (1974), Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964), The Ski Bum (1971), Village of the Giants (1965) and Walk Into Hell (1956), all of which were produced and/or distributed by Avco Embassy Pictures Corporation, were at one point listed in the Magnetic Video catalog in 1979, but no evidence has come up of them ever being released in 1979, or any other year during Magnetic Video's history. It is doubtful that they ever were. At least some of them would eventually see a home media release during the 1980s by Embassy Home Entertainment and/or their Charter Entertainment label.

That being said, the tapes in this blog have the announcement "By special arrangement with Avco Embassy Pictures Corporation, Magnetic Video Corporation is proud to offer the following major motion picture on videocassette." Some copies of THE PAPER CHASE (a Fox film, and one of the first 50 Fox gave to Andre Blay) have that announcement as well (the OP assumes that they were later printings and that it may have been a mistake made by whoever was creating the master tape on the VTR at that time.)

Magnetic's Avco Embassy releases were unique in another way: the films always concluded with a screen showing the copyright for the film. This screen was initially white on a black background, but releases as late as the original VHS release of TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT have it in white with a black outline on a blue background.

Again, early Magnetic releases had a brown bar and a black band reading "Magnetic Video Corporation" at the bottom:

Later ones had the text "MAGNETIC VIDEO - A TWENTIETH CENTURY-FOX COMPANY" in between two red bars at the bottom:
