    An Apple Alone, Completed

And so it ends. This wasn't exactly a story of epic proportions in terms of writing. Large swaths of the 7+ year period were simply spent not writing it. Either pursing other hobbies or just not having the drive to complete it. It subtly nagged at me every so often, but the largest gap in particular featured time where I all-but-forgot about it. After a couple months into February with the final

    Getting Closer

Wanted to post another update so that it isn't presumed I just left again. Editing of the final An Apple Alone chapter is still underway. I'd say it's about 70% complete or so. Unless some really long delays happen for no reason (procrastination isn't going to happen -- I want to get this done), expect it to be posted within a week or two.

    Another Year Passes

    And more procrastination was wrought.

    But now...

Soon this 7+ year journey will come to a close.

Getting Back Into Gear for the Final Chapter

It's been a month since I've released the latest chapter of An Apple Alone. After the release (which was built upon many hours of finishing the draft, editing, re-re-re-reading, etc.), I needed a break from the action.

4 Years, 4 Months Later: The Next Chapter of An Apple Alone is PUBLISHED · 6:44pm Jan 26th, 2018

Been a long time, hasn't it?

So many times I resolved to "get the next chapter out before the next season starts." Which then would morph to "when the next season ends." This repeated a few times, as real life caught up and my interest in writing waned. It came back every now and then, but I never jumped back into writing. But I would always think about how An Apple Alone had been sitting out there unfinished. It hung over my head like the Sword of Damocles.

Last year I decided to put myself on a schedule: Write 100 words a day. Nothing I couldn't do in 15 minutes tops, but it got me writing again. I was eventually able to get that number up to 1,000 a day. Then other real life stuff happened (nothing tragic -- just busy) and interest again waned. Most of the chapter was written by that point, but I couldn't bring myself to finish it.

At the start of 2018, it was time to do or die. I made the initial blog post pledging to finish by February. Then I did a similar schedule: 30 minutes a day writing this thing. And I was finally able to close it out. I was pretty close to the end as it was, but any author knows that simply getting the words down is only the first step! But once the draft was done, I was motivated easily into putting in hours a day to read it over, add, subtract, change, fix, contort, and put on the finishing touches.

Special thanks to my prereaders this time around. SaddlesoapOpera, who gave a lot of good advice in general, and gave a lot of good feedback. And a very special thanks to my friend Autumn Wind, someone I've been friends with for a long time now. He read my chapter from top to bottom, and pointed out all the flubs I made, and then some. He's preread the bulk of this work! Both these ponies' help and time dedicated were invaluable, and I can't thank them enough.

And thanks to you all, of course, for being patient (and to those who didn't -- no fault of your own! It's hard to wait over four years!) and for keeping the comments civil about me vanishing. I'm hoping those of you waiting all this time find this chapter to be worth a fraction of the wait. :twilightoops:

There's still more to come in An Apple Alone! I'll try not to take four years to get the next, and last, chapter out. :twilightsheepish:

I think you win. I try and keep a shelf with fics that have been resurrected. The next biggest gap is just under 4 years

Has it really been four years? Wow. Well, glad you're back. Enjoyed the chapter a lot, especially the ending. Looking forward to the final chapter.
