Rewriting Case One · 6:40am Mar 1st, 2018

Hello, everyone,

When I started writing Ponyville Noire, I did so with the full intention of making it my magnum opus, the highest possible quality work I could make. I plan through (almost) everything with great care, go over everything several times to make sure that everything makes sense and fits together well, and frequently double-check the chapters and make small corrections as needed.

However, I am only human. And sometimes, I fall short of my expectations.

I recently received some criticism from a couple readers, Hyde and Magic Step, who pointed out that Shifting Tone's death in Case One of Noire did not leave a very favorable impression of the protagonists, and also set the tone of Noire as a bit too dark, even for me. After giving it some consideration, I decided that they had a point; I thought it suited my purposes well when I first wrote it, but after this consideration, I realized that Shifting Tone's death was not only unnecessary, it hurt me in some ways.

As a result, I have rewritten Case One so that Shifting Tone survives. This, I believes, lightens the mood of the story a bit, as well as making Phil and Daring both more competent and more compassionate.

Doing major rewrites like this is not something that I'd like to do often, but I recognize the importance of taking criticisms like that into consideration. I thank Hyde and Magic Step for their criticisms and their help in making this story even better than before.

I'll let you know if I make any more major rewrites. For now, adieu until next Monday!

Josiah
