A War Ends, and What's Next · 3:20pm May 5th, 2018

There's not much to say, really. By the grace of God, I've finished this big story. Is it unwieldy at this length? Yes, but, at the very least, you can read this on a very long flight.

A War Ends

As usual, I don't view my stories in high regard. So, to get a few things out of the way: The story fell prey to a vicious cycle of peace-conflict-peace-conflict. I guess that's standard for a war story, but it's hard to extend it to, well, over 250,000 words without sounding incredibly boring or incredibly repetitive, not to mention certain characters got too much focus for a story that seeks to cover a wide range of experiences.

Were there broken promises? Yes. This story was originally planned to be bigger—at my current writing pace, it would've reached the end of June. However, due to doubts and me feeling burned out about this story, I felt that it was better to end it now, admittedly with a somewhat open ending, as much as I don't like those.

But, on the bright side, there's finally an epic based on the Crystal War timeline. Or an attempt at it.

Now, on to the future.

What's Next

If God allows, here's what I plan to write: First, a three-chapter short story starting either on May 7 or the day after; I don't know what the topic might be exactly, but I'll get to it. After that, perhaps another short story—it depends. I'll then be on hiatus until maybe early to mid-June.

That's when I start the normal-length stories.

After the hiatus, I'll go straight to writing a sequel to Chair of the Bored. Yes. That's right. A normal-length sequel to a whimsical one-shot about chairs, featuring the Student Six/Young Six. Yes, it will at least have 20k words, if not more. What shenanigans will they get into? That'll wait until the story's actually out.

Once that's done, a Changeling Timeline story's in order, kind of following up on A War. However, I've not decided on what to do with it yet other than set it in the Changeling Timeline from the Season 5 finale. It will be much shorter than A War, though, so there's that.

Finally, there's one more story that I'll end the year with. What's it about? It's a secret.

So, I think that's all. Have a good day.
