Life has been interesting. "May you live in interesting times" and all that. Hell, things have been fairly odd for most folk in the modern world, it seems.

Life is full of ups and downs, and it's important to remember the ups when you stumble lower. Sometimes it can be hard to remember them. It gets real hard. Which is why I'm doing this thing.

Mono is a super cool person, and honestly, a massive inspiration sometimes. Her life has ups and downs, too, sometimes more down than up. But she's doing something to help. She's making a concerted effort to be more positive, to spend more time thinking about the ups. She's stopping herself from making so many dark/self-deprecating jokes. She's taking breaks to keep her mental stuff balanced, talking to people about things, all sorts of cool stuff. And honestly? It seems to be helping her a bunch. She seems to be a lot happier than she's been in a while. Or a lot more consistently happy, at least.

The downs suck. I've had some downs recently. Some I've posted about in some blogs, others I've not for whatever reason. There have been ups, but they're, as always, hard to remember. So I'm going to do the mono thing.

I'm not going to stop with the dark humour, cos it's part of who I am, and ~~I'm afraid without it I'll find out what my real personality is and that's scary~~ I honestly believe that the dark humour helps me deal with the darker things. But I'm gonna try to balance that out with talking about the positives.

So yeah, that was a real long and rambling way of saying I'm gonna try and do the occasional wholesome post, and I want more people to do them too. 2017 was full of ironic "brb killing self" memes and that sort of thing. While that's all well and good, let's make 2018 more positive, or at the very least, balanced. I'm going to post a positive thing below the line, and I want as many folk as are comfortable with it to make their own post with some positive stuff that happened to them. In the comments, if you'd like, or in a blog if you can. Share the good times, maybe inspire a few more folk do the same, and maybe make it a bit easier to remember those ups, like we need to.

Working in a city pharmacy can be stressful. I like to get away, sometimes. My parents split up a few years ago and while my dad lives nearby, my mum moved to a house in a small village in the Scottish borders. Whenever I can, I like to visit her. It's quiet, I get to unwind, and I also get to spend time with my mum (who I love) and my dogs (who I love, probably even more). I just spent the last few days up there, enjoying the nicest weather I think I've ever seen for this time of year. We visited a brewery, constructed a greenhouse, played with the puppers, enjoyed some home-made chilli, stuff like that. It's been nice. I felt the stress melting off me in waves.

The past couple days have been the most relaxing I've felt in a while. I love my friends, my job, my house, but life can be hard. It's good to get away, sometimes.

Glad to hear you had a relaxing few days and enjoyed some time with your family.

In positive news on my end, it's looking like with a few stronger grades than I thought I'd get ~~and one sorta "you scraped along in the weed out class grade~~, I'll be able to apply and be officially accepted into the cybersecurity program in the college of engineering. So I can say my engineering-related suffering is legit now lol. As for job, going well, I enjoy the IT work well enough and it's closer to what I wanna do anyway. And it beats retail/restaurant work by a mile and a half—no disrespect to anyone in those positions, it's just that I've worked in both and they're super not for me.
