Well, I finally gave in and took a food service job. I have one now at least, and some money is better than none, but it's simply not enough on it's own, and I'm looking to take on a second job like, today, actually. It sucks, but I have to have it. At the very least, the jobs are there, and the trump tax laws make life a little cheaper for me.
Aside from me coming home from work to write though, I haven't done much today. Kingdom of the desert sky got a draft for chapter 1's cover and I drafted the paneling for the first page, so you might see that within the week (or so I hope). As for Super, I'm going to make a conscious effort to get the second half of this chapter written and published by the 23rd, which also happens to be my first pay day, which is nice.
I was writing this the other day, and I realized that I basically mentioned the VBTA in the beginning of the story, and never really explained what exactly it entailed. I had Bow call it a stupid law, but I never actually sat down and thought about the reasons it was a bad idea. So, in my usual fashion, I took my characters and had them figure this out with me while Celestia explains.
It's... kinda terrible. Like, this is the most band-aid law ever, and it fell off after the first shower. Of course, nopony knew better, and to be honest, it really was a shot in the dark on Celestia's part. It did give me reason to set up some stuff and explain a bit more on how the government works in this world.
On the other side of this, Rarity has a speaking line for the first time in like, half a year, and Goose is being Goose, and Pinkie is suffering through the inner turmoil of facing up to what she did. We'll get the fallout of that, and what happened from the time she ran away, to the time she joined Harmony.
When I started this series of chapters, I wanted to write something that would give Pinkie and Fluttershy a chance in the spotlight. They're mostly supporting cast for this, and they should be as this is Applejack's story more than anything else, and even while these chapters aren't specifically about her, they set up things for future events that directly affect her. But in the same way I felt I'd treated Rarity lately, I feel like I just neglected these two. Beauty and the Beast is the only chapter in something like 45 chapters (counting all the parts as one chapter) where Fluttershy is the one narrating from start to finish.
It's almost like she was there to fill a quota and not really a person in a living, breathing world. It was the same way with Pinkie, and I just wanted to fix that. When you get inside their head, hear their fears, hopes, and dreams, you see them differently than when you're looking at them though another character's eyes. This isn't just a character in a story, this is another sentient being that could have been the center of the story, just like everypony else. Rainbow on the other hoof has had a lot of chapters though, and I think I might just be the teensiest bit bias in her favor.
