Signal boost: Mike Cartoon Pony · 8:40pm Nov 17th, 2018
Do you like reading Fimfiction blog posts in which people talk about MLP? Well, you're reading mine, so there must be a chance. That being so, give Mike Cartoon Pony's blogs a look. He's still quite new to this Pony game, being that fairly unusual creature: someone who was brought into the fandom because of the 2017 movie. His two main posts here so far are a review of "Best Gift Ever" (pretty positive) and some detailed thoughts on the movie score album (ditto). That latter post is almost 3,000 words long, so I really meant it when I said "detailed"!
Mike -- that rare thing, an Irish Pony fan -- came to MLP through his long-standing interest in animation, and he has a YouTube channel called "Cartoon Karma" where you can find a fun two-part analysis of the film. There's a fair amount of nit-picking, but it's done in good humour which always helps a lot. And as he points out himself, this movie is what got him into the series itself (and watching the whole lot in about a month 51 days!) so it can't be all bad. I'll embed the two videos below. If you want to keep up with his blog posts, though, make sure you follow him here on Fimfiction as well. And who knows, maybe one day he'll write a ponyfic of his own!
Have to issue a correction here: I say in the video it was "just under two months". More specifically, from November 2nd through to December 23rd, 51 days. Lord, binging the whole series in a month while being in final year of college? Imagine that. I will say I started off at a moderate pace, then really picked it up, then slowed it down enough to finish right before Christmas. Take that as you will.
As for ponyfic, I have written fanfiction before. Little of it was "properly" good, as least not as a whole. There's such a contrast between the fandom and quality of fics here, compared to, say, Powerpuff Girls (though I am still working on finishing unfinished fics back there). I have one notion kicking at the back of my mind, but it'd be too niche to try until I establish a least a small readerbase. Though I can see myself doing small stuff, one-shots that come to me, all that, if only I have the courage to take the plunge with them. Keep an eye out!
Thanks so much for the kind words and signal boost, Logan! Regardless of how many people see it, my dear gratitude for the kind words and watching in full what I'll admit are not bite-sized videos! True gent, you are. Or colt, if you prefer.

Thanks for the correction; now edited!
I feel so old in this fandom sometimes... let's just say I was around when G1 began (though not a fan then) and leave it at that.
I'm sure there are some excellent PPG fics, but as MLP is the only large fandom I know anything about the fandom scene for, it's hard for me to compare. I do think the best stories on Fimfiction are quite ludicrously good considering the source material, though.
These days, I suspect you'll need at least one published fic for that. Probably a non-default avatar, too.
You're very welcome. At some point, when it flows reasonably well, I'll give you a nod on Louder Yay, too.
Those cartoon karma videos are very insightful and well edited!
If I have one complaint though, its his speech pattern: when he talks he ends many statements with the rising tone of voice used for questions, which is confusing to the ear.
Its the spoken equivalent of accidentally putting a question mark at the end of a sentence instead of an exclamation point or a period.

Well, he's on Fimfiction (right here) so probably better if you talk to him direct rather than me... but one thing I will mention is this:
High rising terminals. This is common in Britain, partly because it's an Australian thing* and there was a period in the 1980s/1990s when Australian soaps were enormously popular on our TV. I'm not sure if that's the reason for its existence in Irish English.
* Like saying "uni" for university -- these days, it's standard colloquial British English, but it originated in Australia.
