I really should be getting into some editing, and real work, this morning, but the internal fanboying hasn't stopped since Saturday morning and shows no signs of slowing down.
About 14 cupcakes short of a baker's dozen. Also occasionally goes by Stormy Seas.

Soooo, is the new Godzilla worth going to watch?

For a fan, it's definitely worth the time and money. I dragged my wife along to an IMAX for the occasion, and neither of us was disappointed. If you enjoyed the 2014 film and wished that there had been a greater emphasis and visual focus on giant monsters beating the tar out of each other, go see this one. The callbacks, Easter eggs, and musical homage paid were all fantastic.
All of that is a fan's opinion. Looking at it with a more critical eye, it does fit the Godzilla movie mold: heavy on the action with just the lightest sprinkling of plot. And by "lightest sprinkling," I mean more of a dusting. But this a giant monster movie and I don't go to a film like this one or Pacific Rim (which I also love) looking for complex themes. The human characters are characters only in the barest sense and follow typical cliches and tropes. Again, I didn't wear a green t-shirt with "Nuclear Winter Is Coming" printed over a silhouette of the big guy because I was expecting human characters to whom I would feel any emotional attachment.
Was King of the Monsters the greatest Godzilla film of the franchise? No. That trophy will forever be held by the original release.
Was the movie a step up from the 2014 release, and worth your hard-earned time and money? Most certainly.

Well then, I plan to go see it first chance I get!
How packed was your Theater?

Excellent. I'm interested to hear what you think.
About 3/4 full. There was one thing I missed during this film that I loved about the reception of the 2014 release. I saw the previous movie a day after its premiere as well. In that theater, there was a full round of applause and cheering during the first scene with the atomic breath. And again after the final Muto's death. This most recent audience seemed less engaged.
