Thoughts About Writing and Heart of Magic · 10:26pm Jul 8th, 2019
So for awhile now I've been sitting here thinking about the Heart of Magic, or well most of my writing as a whole. Ever since I began drawing web comics I started to realize that maybe I've been thinking about writing wrong. I used to try and write the way I saw it in my head, meaning I was a very visual story teller, but visuals aren't exactly the thing that makes writing work. Describing hair, and skin, and eyes, and what else have ye, it kinda takes away from the magic of writing and reading. Even when I'm reading, unless it's about Master Chief or something I tend to imagine the character looking wildly different then what their description is. For instance, I have no idea what Dresdian from the Dresdian Files actually looks like other than his signature trench coat lol.
So one part of what's holding me back was me learning more about what writing really is and how it should be viewed (in my personal opinion) but another one is just how large my next few pony projects really are. I mean Heart of Magic is supposed to be HUGE!!! But I just don't have the time, nor paitience to try and write that much of a story, and make it good at the same time. My standards for story telling have risen and with that I find I have a unique challenge of trying to fit what would have easily been as large, if not larger than the original Heart of Stone story, into a much smaller packet while also being able to tell everypony's epic destiny. I'm coming to some good ideas.
For starters, two main pov characters instead of the epic cast I was going to have. Just Trixie being a middle aged house wife, teacher. And her youngest daughter Amber Light who is Twilight's spunky but sheltered Apprentice. One character will deal with the more strategic and darker elements of the story, the other deals with the much more light hearted adventurey stuff. It's gonna take awhile before I can really start writing on it unfortunately due to my living situation, but once I can get to a quiet and stable place, I fully intend to start work on this final entry to the Heart of Stone universe.
