Stairway to Equestria: Possible upcoming separation from cannon arc & new chapter news · 3:01am Nov 11th, 2012
Hello everyone, I hope you guys really enjoyed the season 3 premiere as much as I did !
Firstly, work on the next chapter is going great and it should be ready soon !
Now to the main reason I wrote this blog post. [the following contains spoilers from Season 3 episodes 1 and 2]
It's not decided yet, but I may have to separate the fic from several of the show's future cannon facts. Some of you may be aware of the Twilight alicorn theory and the whole Star swirl's the Bearded book at the end of the episode 2. These all suggest that cannon might go in a direction which is not part of Stairway to Equestria's universe. As you know, the events of Blink's arrival to Equestria take place around four years after Luna's return, and up until now, everything which is cannon in season 1 and 2 is also a fact in Stairway to Equestria.
It is also pretty hard to adapt a work in progress fic as the episodes release. I mean sure, Blink can find out about stuff he never heard before when he was human (for example finding out Twilight having a brother), but important things will inevitable interfere with STE's timeline.
If whatever comes next is manageable, I will do my best to maintain and integrate the cannon part of the show into STE. I am not giving up on that so don't panic, but please do not be disappointed if at some point the story will start ignoring certain events that will occur in future episodes.

Don't get stressed over the new stuff, its completely acceptable to ignore canon that turns up while your in the middle of a story. The way I see it is when you start a story, only canon up to the present matters, the new episodes are just an alternate timeline for all it really matters.
Fuck the show, the world you authors create outdoes the animated one anyways. : )
And looking forward to the next part of Stairway, it has been a lovely story thus far, even with all the crap I wanted to give you for the ending to the most recent chapter. Looking forward to you having Gilda's ass beat fyi.
It's something many of us have to do in the end. If I stuck to canon, the Crystal Empire would have landed in the middle of some very pissed off gryphon clans pretty much at war with Equestria and each other, and with the nearby area controlled by space faring humans toting power armour and huge guns who haven't exactly had the warmest welcome by the locals (casualties on all sides!
).
Usually, people don't end up worrying about it. No one has in any of the cases I've seen, anyway.
Oh, by the way, a cannon is a gun, canon is the general rule.
I honestly don't care whether a fic is true to the canon or not. If anything, if you want to include something that involves season 3 episodes, just say that Twilight got a letter and she had to leave for a week.
Yeah, kinda know you had Celestia saying that Twilight already has a decided fate, and supposedly from commercial involving later episode plotlines, by the end of Season 3, she and we will learn her true destiny.
Kinda makes me wonder what it is, if not what you say... but hopefully, if it's something big regarding Equestria, it has a happy ending and writers don't pull a sad but happy cause of greater good (if that makes sense or is even such a thing) ending.
But hey, all fanfics have to break canon in order to make sense or be written, whether or not new things might be introduced that produce a problem. Such as something concerning RD for Season 3 that I may have learned before I came up with a specific idea involving her, but may've forgotten when I came up with the idea and might still do anyways.
Regardless of what happens, will continue to read, even if not all later episodes will be canon to the story as well and try to keep all this in mind. As I said in recent review, hope to see the next chapter before long, especially with that looming cliffhanger and many questions on my mind now.
