Another beloved actor from Power Rangers has passed away. Today we have learned of the death of Robert Axelrod at the age of 70, as of yet the cause of death has not been announced but apparently he was sick for some time.

Axelrod most prominently voiced Lord Zedd beginning in the second season of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and he was quite effective at the role. In fact he was so good that there were complaints from parents that he was too scary for their children. As such he was eventually retooled to be more hammy. Neverthless, he stayed in the role of Lord Zedd through Zeo and returned to reprise the role for In Space even though the costume had noticeably detoriated by then (such was why characters like Rito and Goldar did not return).

Axelrod voiced other characters in the franchise as well, including the original monster maker Finster and Lokar who appeared most noticeably in the "Island of Illusion" and "Doomsday" two parters (after which he was never seen again). He also voiced Wizardmon in the dub of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02 where he also voiced Armadillomon and Ankylomon. And he had a few roles in other anime and cartoons.

While not quite as young as some of the other noticeable talents to be lost to the Power Rangers franchise, Robert's death will still leave a hole in the hearts of fans everywhere. May the power protect him, always.
