I loved the first game. Finished it several times with Crimson Court and Color of Madness. Now, I see a second one in the works. I suspect that the studio is now bigger and has more resources thanks to their profits. Here are some things I would like to see in Darkest Dungeon 2
1. Male and female versions of all classes.
2. Trinkets and equipment upgrades visible on character sprites.
3. No more random hunger checks. I’d prefer a hunger bar for each character that depletes as the run progresses. Stress eaters and tapeworm victims deplete their hunger bars faster. If the bar gets low, they start taking damage and stress. Hunger isn’t random. When I go through my day, I don’t sit there thinking ‘Shit, I’m pretty busy, I sure hope I don’t randomly get hungry all of a sudden.’ You know you’re about to get hungry if you haven’t eaten in a while. This should be something a player can plan for better.
4. Voice acting for all character barks with the option to turn them off if they turn out to be too annoying for some people.
5. Unique inter-party interactions and synergizing. Maybe some classes like each other so they gain bonuses, or may not like each other and gain penalties. It could be a more personal thing between members of the roster. Also, class-related personal quests.
6. Class-specific curios. For example, a plague doctor should get better results when the party interacts with a laboratory, or a grave robber should always be able to dig up graves without spending resources.
7. Diseases that make better sense, even if the doctors in the game are so good they can cure rabies and syphilis (but not leprosy). Bulimia is not an infection for example. And you can’t get tetanus from reading a book. I’d rather just use fantasy diseases all throughout.
8. Better defined status effects. If blight is so corrosive that I can blight skeletons and stone gargoyles why can’t I blight a cannon to soften it up?
9. More spiders. And vomiting pigs.
10. No micro transactions. Ever. I don’t mind a DLC, but I don’t want to see an in game store with the option to buy fake money with real money. No loot boxes either.
5 makes me think of Dragon Age party dialogue, which would be great. Probably less comedic though, to keep with the tone, or maybe just darker comedy?
If they did add genders for each class, then I’d also like to see flaws and strengths that play off that, and maybe enemies like Succubi and Incubi who have a advantage over one of them. That’d make for nasty late game suprise if people hadn’t prepared for that.
