This is Paul, from Pokemon series DIAMOND AND PEARL (I have been told many of you may not know of him) well those wikis will only give you a SMALL bit of info (Wiki's don't tell or show you effectively everything.
To really know him better, you have to WATCH the show itself.
However, much as I don't always approve of his attitude, I do find it inspirational and perfect where I want it most... namely aimed at the ponies for their talk of over-optimism and friendship.
Masquerade From my Yu-Gi-Oh E-Quest series, behaves in a very similar way to Paul.
-He has no desire to be friends with anyone.
-Like most Sociopaths, he believes that friendship and goodwill are signs of weakness, not strength.
-He does not see games as fun and joy and merely sees them as tools to increase his power and wealth.
-He has no qualms about talking down to people he regards as weak and spineless.
Masquerade is not the only one, I make several characters behave like Paul towards the ponies, or Beast Boy behave towards the Titans (Even made Davis behave that way once in one of My Yugioh Spies stories)
Regardless, if you want a true view of Paul, you should watch POKEMON DIAMOND AND PEARL, but here are three episodes I do suggest you watch, and I'll give you some of the quotes.
TWO DEGREES OF SEPARATION
Paul: *Chuckles*
Ash: "What's so funny, Paul?"
Paul: Just that you talk like such a little kid!
Paul to Ash: I think I figured your strategy: You cover your wear attacks by pushing, and when you combine that with a lame strategy like what you just pulled, I can't help but feel sorry for any Pokemon that gets stuck with a lousy trainer like you!"
DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT BLOKES
Paul to Ash: "I don't need help, especially from a little kid!"
"You come into these woods and you don't know where you are-- You're pathetic! I'm outta here!"
*Paul to Chimar over winning the battle* "Being Pathetic is nothing to be proud about!"
Ash: "Don't you ever have anything nice to say?"
Paul: "What exactly do you want me to say? I've got nothing nice to say to a loser!"
TOP DOWN TRAINING
Ash: Why don't you care about your Pokemon?!"
Paul: "Because then they'll get spoiled, and Chimchar's the perfect example of exactly what I mean: A spoiled Pokemon that doesn't try hard enough."
Paul scolding Chimchar: "Look, I don't care if you DID get injured! To be captured by a bunch of losers-- USELESS!!"
CHIM-CHARRED
Ash: "What's so funny?"
Paul: "Remember the reason I entered the Tag-Battle in Hearthome city? Well you gave me a hard time just because I did it to get my Pokemon in better shape for a REAL battle... BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU PULLED AT THE WALLACE CUP, GET IT!!?"
Ash: "... The only thing you were thinking about was powering up your Pokemon!!"
Paul: "Well the fact is I DID win it! But you weren't able to win the Wallace Cup now, were you? Another perfect example of just how strong you AREN'T!!"
Now that's the kind of stuff I want to see thrown the ponies way (Hence my FRIENDSHIP IS FAILURES and Crossovers)
And also, Paul is the perfect example of NOT to be taken lightning, jerk or not. A character may be rude and nasty and all that (Including those you think act like self-entitled brats) but that does not in anyway mean they are easy to beat in a game or a fight.
Ash has only ever beaten Paul TWICE in the ENTIRE SERIES, every other battle, HE WINS.
Anyway, I've made myself Clear, Paul is Good inspiration for me... not the best, but a fine one.
Are you referring to their battle by the river as a victory for Ash? I somewhat disagree as while Ash certainly would have won if the battle had continued, it was called off because Ash was unable to control Chimchar's behavior while Blaze was activated.
