It crapped out on me · 12:07pm Feb 6th, 2020
A couple days ago, I was running sound checks on a few of my guitars. When I went for my Custom Shop Fender Stratocaster, it crapped out on me.
It was a bit twitchy when I bought it, probably because some of the parts are dirt cheap, but that's not to say it's a crap guitar in general. Before, the five-way selection switch was causing me issues when I played it. On the bridge, it was a bit dodgy, often cutting out if I lightly knocked it with my arm when I strummed, or sometimes randomly, so I'd have to jiggle it until it powered back up or I had to slap the pick guard to get it to work again. For some reason, the middle selection doesn't work, either. Those two were the biggest issues with the guitar.
Now? I can only get the neck pickup to work out of the three single coil pickups there are, but that was only after I took it apart to see what was going on. I've never conducted a repair for a Strat selection switch, so I didn't tinker with it over fear of breaking it completely. Instead, I used contact cleaner to see if that was the problem. Nope, after that, I tried it this one time during a sound check and now I can only get a signal on the neck pickup.
It's always got to be the things you love, hasn't it? It wouldn't bother me as much, but this guitar is one of my two main guitars. That, to somebody like me, is a royal pain that I can do without, especially when I kinda need it for recording purposes. And I know nothing of electrical repair when it comes to selection switches, so there's that on my to-do list.
Darn. Sorry to hear that my friend
