Pathetic whining · 11:27am Mar 14th, 2020
My employers have asked me, and everyone else in the marketing department, to work from home for the next three weeks.
On one hand: YAY! No wasting two hours of my life every day commuting.
On the other: Boo! This will make writing ponefic even more difficult.
Lately it's been a daily struggle to lay down just a few descriptive paragraphs - a snippet of dialog - a few point-form plot points. My feverish brain is crammed with four-legged actors performing on imaginary stages, but writing feels like torture. Original Netflix shows? Bring them on. YouTube documentaries? Sure, why not? New ponefic on my iPad? Watch me walk a groove through the kitchen and living room while I read.
Anything but more hours slaving over a hot keyboard! I get more than enough of that at the office, and working from home doesn't even involve standing up from my desk. Swap out my sleek HP for the clunky office Dell and, huzzah, the sitting-time has been doubled!
This is going to be just awful if I don't get out of here for at least an hour or three, now and then.
In other less-than-great news: my expedition to the U.K. next month will probably be scrapped. I should get half of my AirBnB booking fees refunded, but not the airline ticket & car rental. I foolishly didn't get "cancel for any goddamn reason" insurance, so I probably won't get a refund unless British Airways cancels the flight... or goes out of business. *fingers crossed*
Over $2k in the hole & missing out on the trip back to my homeland that I was finally, finally, FINALLY going through with.
Arse.
Edit: Looks like I can get a voucher from BA if I cancel, so I'm not quite as screwed.
