I’m reading The Art of War. · 12:08am May 21st, 2020

Y’know, the Art of War by the Chinese General, Sun Tzu? That one. I’m reading it. Why?

Uhh...

I dunno, I’m just reading it.

Sounds like a reasonable argument to me.

Yeah. Thanks.

No prob. It's my excuse for most of the books I read

5266200
Yeah, it’s my go-to reason for reading books.

It’s my excuse for most of the bad fics I read. I just like seeing how bad they are.

5266214
Yeah, that’s also true.

Sun Tzu's work long since surpassed its original purpose, It is studied by managers, administrators, police officers and all others who have people under their responsibility. "Art of War", together with Miyamoto Mushashi's "Book of Five Rings" and Carl Clausewitz's "On War" are some of the most influential books in human history.

I also suggest you take a read of one of the numerous books on German Blitzkrieg, sadly I cannot recommend you a particular one. Even though Sun Tzu's teachings are as relevant as they always were, there's hardly anyone in the world who can teach you more about industrial-age warfare than 20th century Germans. We may have fancy tools, like thermal imaging and precision weapons, but in the end, it is still about who can be the quickest.

Yeah, that’s true

Germans are also an example of chivalry and honor stretching even into the most disgraceful years of their nation's history. People like Franz Stigler and Walther Wenck are examples of how much meaning the concept of honor matters even in the age of gunpowder and petrol.

5267798
Yeah, I believe I’ve heard of Franz Stigler. He guided an America B-17 away from the German seawall if I remember correctly.

5267800
I'd expect you heard of both. Franz covered a damaged B-17 from german flak fire and Walter disregarded Hitler's orders to save Berlin's civilians and the remnants of destroyed 9th army from Soviets and surrendered to Americans.

5267802
Oh, yeah! Now I remember.

5267803
Things like these help you sort through the layers upon layers of lies that people tend to create to defend themselves. Soviets and Russians are infamous for that. Here's a question: If Germans were huge duchebags who killed people and Russians just fought because they were provoked and in general were nice people, how come Germans were so afraid of them that they would rather die trying to escape than surrender to them?
Or, another question, if communism is anti-thesis to fascism, what Germans were doing at Moscow parade in 1940?
Russians cannot answer these questions, well, they can, but they won't. Instead, you can watch them squirm trying to get out of this trap. Imagine being so petty to not acknowledge some crime committed by the state that doesn't even exist anymore. This is why you can never trust anything Russians ever say, even when they are not outright lying.

5267808
Yeah, I guess that’s true.
