I find that if you ask the person who ok'd your story in the first place, to publish at certain times of the day, then you will get more hits. during the middle of the day is the worst time to publish a story as most people are at school/work. Having the story publish at around 7-8pm eastern or later is a better time to get hits. That and you can shamelessly promote your story by giving comments to featured stories.
