Okay, so uh, yeah. If you've seen a certain Markaplier video that I reposted, you might know where my stance is on this. But I'm going to come out and say it.
Black Lives Matter.
Okay, as a sheltered middle-class white guy I admit there's a lot I won't even pretend to understand. But I've known this has been building for centuries. The 1960s were just one moment of tension finally exploding, and you've have thought decades after 'I Have a Dream' we'd have taken notice and gotten better about this.
But people... well, people are stupid. A person's smart, but people are stupid. I won't pretend to support riots, I never will. This isn't the way to go about it. See those people on the march maybe outside your door? That's how we do this. We don't make asses out of ourselves. I understand people are angry and confused, and why I didn't make this post earlier I'm not sure.
I try to keep politics out of this blog. I really do. But this isn't something I can stand silent on for any longer. I don't care if you're Black, Latino, Pakistanian, or from the planet Zog. There's a terrible ugly sort of thing in our society, we don't like to talk about it but it's there. I know, I'd like to say in the next year or so racism will be gone but it probably won't. It probably never will be completely gone.
But it's up to us to fight it at every corner. Educate the next generation about our own stupidity. There are currently people in power who think some very ugly shit, and while I'm not labeling every cop as a bigot there are the bad eggs. The ones will stand on more George Floyds and murder them. Calling it anything else is a disservice. I won't throw every cop under the bus and call them bigots. Not all of them are. Hell, I've seen Twitter posts of cops handing out pizza to protesters or even marching along with them.
But this will probably happen again in the future unless we step up, educate the next generation on our mistakes.
I'm sorry, but I had to get up and say something.
