Hey all. So, my laptop's back, and hopefully the repairs took.
I'm still getting back into the grove of writing while trying to catch up on my research projects, so here's some art I did of one possible future that Phoenix-born Rising could end up in to tide everyone over until the next chapter.
An older Sunset, Philomena, and a third member of the Shimmer household ready to head off for adventure. What sort of trouble will they get into? The best kind of course!

And while I know that's a shield, I can't help but see it as a lamprey-like mouth where Sunset's left hand should be. (Silly Sunset. Never cast a transmutation effect you can't undo.)

That's not far off from what the buckler actually does. The bucker and rapier are actually a paired set of amps named Scream ans Whisper, respectively. One of Scream's functions is to absorb and store kinetic energy when something strikes it's surface.

True, but the Panther Habit doesn't let him use the stored kinetic energy as a power source for the weapon's other functions. Both Whisper and Scream can use the stored energy as fuel for their other powers.
Your a really good artist have you ever considered adding pictures into the story to enhance the chapters? There are a number of people on this site that do for example Tarbanto and his story The Bridge: A Godzilla-MLP Crossover.

I've read a fanfic where Sunset had sommething familiar, though in her case it was the more her shield was hit the stronger the flames in her sword become.

Actually, Whisper and Scream are arctic elemental weapons (i.e. ice and wind). After all, Sunset's got fire on lockdown with her natural phoenix powers. Why go in further on something where you've got it covered instead of filling in a gap?

Or if it is, it's used wrong. Most of the time, media just doesn't use bucklers right. Or, really, any form of HEMA. Mind, I don't practice HEMA, but I'm a big fan of Skalagrim and Shadiversity on YouTube.
If I hadn't gone with the buckler, I had actually thought of going with rapier and cloak.

I can sort of understand that because I have a friend on fanfiction who’s getting harassed a lot with some even swearing in the comments all because his story is similar to another one and is often threatened with having his account removed.
