Fallout Equestria: Reformation's Revival · 3:09am Jul 15th, 2020
I just posted a new chapter, after I believe six years, maybe more, of letting the fic lie dead.
I believe it was the first fic I ever posted to this site, before I started writing clop. I started writing it when I was just not quite yet over my self-insert, mary sue phase, and it shows.
I've spent the last several days re-reading all of it, though, and I'm surprised at how much fun it was. Maybe it's the quarantine taking a toll on me, and writing such a heavy, introspective, personal story is therapeutic for me, but I really like it. When I hit where I left off, working on it was so natural. I haven't written so many words so fast in years. And it was that easy and natural to write six years ago, too.
I know it's not "good." Ebonmane is an obvious self-insert. Parts of the story are a mess. I only remember the major plot beats I had planned for the whole thing, so I'm having to reconstruct a lot of the pathways to those points as I go. And it's incredibly, cripplingly self-indulgent in a hundred different ways. But it's fun.
Most people won't read it. And most of the ones that do probably won't enjoy it, or get bored partway through. And I might hit a rut and leave it to lie dead for another unreal amount of time. But to be frank, I stopped caring what this community thought of my fics a while ago. If you do happen to like it, the encouragement always helps more than you know. And if you haven't checked it out, or especially if you haven't read the original Fallout: Equestria, I highly recommend it, and suggest that maybe you try it. It's not the hot porn you expect from me, but I like to think some of my strongest writing chops still show through the hard parts of the mary sue veneer.
At any rate, thanks for reading.
