Day 4: The Frontier Approaches · 9:47pm Sep 21st, 2020

Work, work, work. Whew! At least that's out of the way and I've got free rein for the next few days. Just a lot of time to myself and feeling indebted to nothing and no one. It's the nice, quiet, peaceful times when I'm most comfortable.

I now have the makings of a plan. Five acts, each with three scenes - organized according to the theme of the story (dark, unhealthy relationships), subject matter (the Magical Girl Warrior stuff I mentioned before), and moments of emphasis on the setting (something distinct or meaningful to the story about Manehattan itself). All making a total of fifteen scenes potentially between 1k and 2k words apiece.

The plan's only meant to be an anchor, not a shackle. It's to make sure some key moments are present and correct. One of the things I've learned over time is that a project is never as simple and straightforward when you actually start exploring the story's territory, so it's best to keep a few landmarks in mind before setting out over such uncharted lands. (And if that metaphor makes any sense to you, then welcome to the weird world of writing...).

Normally, this would be the time when I'd make some starter effort, get cold feet, crash, and lose all interest and conviction. So this is where the current experiment will have to prove its worth. Looking forward to the first round of testing!

Impossible Numbers, out.
