Random snippet to prove I’m still alive

“I got the time off!” The familiar voice emanating from the landline handset was jubilant.

A broad grin crossed Sunset’s face. “Great! Y’know, I can’t remember the last time both our vacation times lined up.”

“Four years, seven months, and twelve days.” The dry, and dryly humorous, reply came back instantly. “But who’s counting?”

So, uh, yeah, I’m here. I guess I should have mentioned it earlier, but it slipped my mind. Better late than never, I guess.

Yes, I’m still around, though I still have nothing substantive for Fimfiction—and I’m not sure when, if ever, I will again. All I’ve got at the moment is a handful of random morsels from my tiny but active mind.

    Not naming names [writing tips]

As I’ve mentioned here and there, one of the (many) rules I generally abide by when writing for Twin Canterlots is: avoid using real-world names wherever possible. It’s harder than it seems—especially when one considers indirect coinages as well as direct references—and I don’t always succeed, but in general I find ways to skirt them most of the time. Who will win Squirrel Sensation? Fluttershy or Sunset Shimmer? Find out on today's EG short!

Oddly, one of my favorite aspects of this is Sunset’s temper—not just her hilarious tantrum here in particular, but how consistently her short fuse is written as a character trait for her. It makes so much sense given her arc.

It was always important for us to keep her short temper. Women in kids media are very rarely [“allowed”, I would guess] to show anger as an emotion unless they are a villain. As a woman (with a temper) myself it was a big deal she be allowed that emotion/ part of her personality.

It is a great injustice that one is not allowed to upvote these things.

Huh. That's actually a really interesting character note. :O

I'd argue that it's okay for either gender to display anger as an emotion, but that's just me. Not a fan of double standards, I am.

All these extra textual bits and bobs are not changing my mind about EqG but making me extreeeemley sympathetic for its fans.
