The dislikes bar · 5:09am Mar 18th, 2021
Have you ever noticed when you first post a fic, and as soon as it gets posted it gets more dislikes than likes? Well I think I may have the answer as to why that happens. Short answer people are lazy to read the actual fic and only judge the fic based on the stories description, it’s rarely ever because they hate it. I know this is mostly true because of my experience with posting fics by now. I’ll post a fic, and it will instantly get mostly dislikes after being posted. But, then after the days go on the fic all of a sudden starts to get a ton of likes. Why you may ask? Because once your fic is no longer at the top of the new stories page, most of the people who are going to read that fic now, are going to be people who looked up the characters names in the fic that you made. When you make a fic, with a popular characters name it’s going to going to get viewed a bunch. Once it’s off the new stories page you won’t have to worry about getting tons of dislikes anymore, because the people reading it afterward are people who actually want to read the fic and not just read the description, because once again they actually looked up the characters names on the search bar. And from what I can tell people who look up fics of their favorite characters, they don’t judge it very negatively. Basically what I’m telling you is, don’t get offended if your fic gets tons of dislikes when you first post it. Unless the fic is a non-consensual clop, then it’s understandable because lots of people hate those types of stories.
This is 100% true. I've had fics that within the first minutes of their posting have literally garnered more dislikes than views - an undeniable proof that the downvoters never even opened the text page in the first place.
The upvotes always come more gradually, as people actually read the stories before posting those.
