Just to flag two non-pony things I am doing this month:
On Saturday 18 September, I will be part of a discussion panel at the HowTheLightGetsIn festival in London, debating New Theories of the Universe with Bjørn Ekeberg, Sabine Hossenfelder, and Philip Ball. It is rather exciting, and just a little scary, to see my name on a list of speakers that includes some pretty big names. I’m not sure how the debate will go, but it should be fun.
Then on Thursday 23 September 4-7pm UK time, I am running a livestream on the Oxford Physics YouTube channel: Collide! Why particle physics at Oxford matters.
This will include virtual tours of the CERN laboratory and ATLAS experiment in our Minecraft world; talks by researchers on smashing proton beams and the quest to understand dark matter and other mysteries of the universe. I have been stressing out a bit organising this, trying to recruit enough volunteers to fill the schedule, but it is now coming together.
Once I've got this out of the way, I might have time to finish a new pony science story.
Congrats! Its a pond away, alas, so can't make it, but that sounds cool!
Wow, that's awesome! Damn, this is near me, I am very tempted ^^ Sounds like it will be a blast!
A festival of music and ideas?
That would never work in the US... >.>
I do wish I could make it. Hope it goes well!
Good luck; I hope that things go well!
Neat! I put the livestream on my calendar!
I shall try to attend the streaming.
