Friendship is Card Games: Epic (Noun) Time

Yeah, we’re dipping into the fandom archives for this one. Literally, given that the Alligator Tub Productions YouTube channel has renamed itself and wiped its content. But the Internet never forgets (except when it does) so let’s look at some classic fan animation and see how well it holds up.

Friendship is Card Games: Ponyville Mysteries: Schoolhouse of Secrets

This is an interesting situation. I begin my look at the Ponyville Mysteries novel series, which predates the Ponyville Mysteries comics I reviewed back in… 2019, my goodness.

Well, let’s get this started before my bones turn to dust.

    Egregious Automaton: Retract

Ahem. So. Upon further investigation, it is possible that the primary source for the "AI voices" brouhaha may, in fact, have been full of crap. Or at the very least, does not work at Hasbro.

    Egregious Automaton

You may have already heard about this from Equestria Daily or elsewhere in your personal bit of the Webbernets, but the reason behind the abrupt end of Make Your Mark has come to light.

Friendship is Card Games: Set Your Sail, #1 & #2

As “The Blockywockys” showed, seaponies never stopped being a thing. Whether they’re the same thing in this comic as Destiny the underwater friendship bracelet weaver remains to be seen. Let’s dive in and find out.

My upcoming card blog schedule is going to be a bit muddled in the coming weeks since I'm heading to Everfree Northwest just in time for enough G5 content to aggregate to the point of reviewability. (Yes, the "kinks" in the blog title refer to unexpected changes to my plans. You should be ashamed of yourself. :raritywink:) As such, here's what to expect in the near future of FiCG:

August 21st: Missing Out, the beginning of a deep dive into Minty Root's catalogue during the fan animation part of my current three-stage rotation (along with fan comics and official novels, in that order.)
August 28th: Moonstuck, Part 2, which will be delayed due to EFNW.
September 4th: Make Your Mark, Part 6. There will be enough shorts to work with at the end of August, but I have a local copy of Moonstuck. It'll be simpler to work on that on my way home from Seattle.
September 11th: G5 IDW issues #3 and #4. The latter also comes out at the end of August; this will just be when I get to it after putting it in the priority backlog.

Incidentally, should I start putting my card blog schedule somewhere visible? I have tentative plans out through next August and more in the tank besides. Not sure if people want to know what's coming or prefer to be surprised.

September 4th: Make Your Mark, Part 6

*Tell Your Tale
Incidentally, the YouTube playlist for it (which officially identifies it as season 1) already also has 3 more yet unreleased videos in it, meaning the whole thing will be a total of 26 episodes long. No words on whether after that it's straight to season 2 or if there'll be an hiatus of sorts. Good news is the actual MYM series should come out, uh... When's it coming out, again? I'm terrible at this. Early / mid September, was it?

are you sure you don't just really like seeing what's going to happen in the future? :V

So, new spoilers for Dominaria United, and Inside Baseball Alerts abound:

  • Apparently somebody killed Braids and found out that dementia casters and necromancers have in common that that doesn't really work.
  • IIRC it's always been canon that Sheoldred can switch out everything below the waist, and now she's showing that off while also calling herself "the apocalypse". Additionally, wasn't that a set from the previous Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria?
  • Apparently whatever's left of Lord Windgrace can manifest an avatar if he has to. A Phyrexian invasion definitely qualifies.
  • White is the color of community and The Needs of the Many, so I suppose it makes sense that their iconic walkers keep dying. (I don't care what the story or characters think, Phyrexia doesn't even care enough to keep its arm out of the shot while using his body as a meat puppet.)
  • They don't have the guts to put The Raven Man's actual name on the card even though they've revealed it at this point. He also managed to find a new body somewhere, and (un)fortunately didn't just steal Liliana's. At 2/1, it's more or less average for a healthy human with Nominal Importance but no real combat training or equipment (Masako the Humorless joke, carry on).
