Princess Cadance has a problem only Agent Sweetie Drops can solve. But Agent Sweetie Drops—now known to almost everypony as Bon-Bon—would rather tear her own legs off than work for a princess again.

This was originally going to be my entry in the 2024 May Pairings Contest, but I didn't get it finished in time.

After defeating the Legion of Doom, everypony thinks that Twilight is ready to take on being the sole ruler of Equestria. When Celestia tells her this, she begins to think about her past and how she was never in charge of her own destiny. After spending some time alone and then with her friends, she realizes that she must make a huge decision, a decision that has so much at stake.

Everypony knows the Hearth’s Warming Eve tale of tribal unity and the shared rule which followed. Everypony also knows that alicorns - singular or dual - have sat on Equestria’s throne for well over a thousand years.

Very few have really looked in to what actually happened between those points.

Even Twilight Sparkle, until a chance encounter leads her to an alarming discovery: Neither she, nor any other alicorn, has actually held any legal right to Equestria’s throne. They are technically usurpers, autocrats - even tyrants.

Still struggling with her own personal rule, having the fundamental basis for her authority swept from beneath her leaves Twilight with one simple, yet impossible question: 

Now what?

Cozy Glow, Tirek, Chrysalis, all are names feared by many. However, after their defeat, memories of them have started to fade.

Not Twilight's though, no she's thought of the incident every day since she ascended to the throne, and today she had a very disquieting thought.

"Didn't Discord say he could see while like that? What about them?"

So she asked and so he answered

An anonymous letter has been sent to Princess Twilight Sparkle with grim news: one of the benches in the local park has been booby trapped! Said trap will trigger whenever the next pony to sit on it stands up.

Not a problem. No need to panic! All she has to do is get to the bench before anypony... sits... on it.

After Cozy Glow is caught and the world is saved, a single mare has the nerve to blame the hero of the hour for the near destruction of Equestria.

They've only been at camp for a few hours and someone already has their sights set on Twilight, but Flash is not going to stand for that. He'll show this Timber Spruce who the real man is in the most manly was possible: a duel.

Rainbow Dash agrees to meet up with her friends, but along the way the attitudes of two of her friends make her doubt if they are really just friends.
