So how does Link's Wallet work?

You could say that his wallet is connected to a transdimentional space that could only hold, say 600 Rupees, but what is stopping him from having 600 yellow Rupees?

Is there some scale on size and weight that isn't typically shown with a few exceptions, or is there some other foce governing Link's and everyone else s wallets?
