Smoozelings are small purple slime-creatures that live within deep cave networks, for the most part feeding off of fungus, small insects and bacteria. However, if they should gather en-mass, they will become a larger single, sapient Purple Smooze, and have been known to prey on larger creatures. This is not only dangerous because of the massive appetite, but the potential for so much Smooze at once to cover massive areas of land, and kill off most of the plant and animal life there. As it is, Smooze is near-invulnerable to little else besides the magic of the various Changeling-related equines, though certain sound-based magic also works. Whatever they do not eat, as the blobs move on, the slime trails they leave behind congeal and suffocate whatever it's surrounding too. Single Smoozeling blobs are for the most part inert and are very docile if kept well-fed. However it is highly recommended that only the most highly-skilled magic-using ponies keep and study them, as while they are harmless for the most part, it's easy to fall into a false-sense of security and the creatures become out of hand rapidly. For this reason too is it easy for a pony to become 'Smoozed' if their guard is down. "Smoozed" is the process by which a sapient being, whether covered in Smooze or ingesting it, is affected by the Smooze's magic: essentially a more powerful version of "Discording", with those ingesting it becoming Nightmares.

Ironically, only one species as a whole is immune to "Smoozing," due to having high levels of Chaos Magic

Smoozelings will occasionally emit a strange, moan-like call. When recordings of these calls are significantly sped up, they almost sound like the Smoozeling is saying Ancient Equestrian phrases that roughly translate to "you can't stop me" and "don't even try".

the Purple Smooze was at one time nearly responsible for the destruction of Equestria, before the combined forces of Changelings and Flutterponies managed to fight it off. pieces of this "Original Smooze" are kept in Tartarus and the Smooze Pool deep in the Badlands, a common congregation for witches. However, stories from Zebrica tell of a "River of Smooze"

Among these witches are those "Chosen by the Smooze", individuals somehow able to withstand the mind-altering effects caused by the slime.

Green Smooze

More docile than Purple Smooze, Green Smooze lack the corrupting effects of their purple cousins. They eat gold and gems, growing larger as more is consumed. Because of this, they can be destructive as they spread out, but this is limited to leaving slime everywhere.

Arabus

a less destructive, airborne smooze variant, Cloud Blobs will also form together to form a flying sapient called an Arabus. While lacking its land-bound cousin's "Smoozing" ability, it is an expert at shadow magic

Lavan

a volcano-dwelling Smooze variant, Lavalings will form a Lavan, among the most sapient of the Smoozekin, able to burn things with a touch.

through time, Lavan gain a more "solid" form, and the goal of each one is to become a "Crystal Lavan"

Shoggoth

Native to the unnamed southern continent, Shoggoths have no "mini-blob" form, going around constantly as large, amorphous masses.

Shoggoths are terrifying because of their partial shape-shifting abilities, growing whatever they need when they need it.

Despite being sapient, it is common for many cults to use shoggoths as "guard beasts", a job the shoggoths are particularly good at.
