I just read through this thread, and if you don't mind my input, here's a couple of things I would like to say:

As far as your weapon ideas go, I like the idea of most of them, except for the smart friend having pistols. I would suggest something along the lines of a slingshot (similar to how Usopp from One Piece fights), or if you really want to use a gun, try a revolver. This is just my personal opinion, however.

As far as the personality of the funny guy's marefriend, if watching anime doesn't fit for some reason, I've seen someone use reading manega instead (Manga + Horse Pun = Manega).

I'd try to offer a suggestion for a title, but I can't really think of anything at the moment... Sorry.

BTW, the basic premise does sound kind of similar to The Matrix, but if you've never seen the movie, I'm sure your story will be different enough to be interesting.
