I’m eventually seeking people who’re more military minded than myself to consult in battle scenes in a Star Wars/MLP crossover I’m trying to jump back into making.

For context the idea is the tech has gotten into Equestria and it’s going to be basically a huge transitional period from swords and such to blasters, tanks, etc.

A few other things: planes exist but they’re mostly for stunt pilots like the Wonderbolts, firearms or at least prototypes exist but they’re highly restricted to military personnel in Equestria despite other nations trying to create them as well.

So some help especially for the first story in this transition would really help in developing tactics that make use of the strengths of these new weapons while still creating exciting drama without having to fall into Hollywood Tactics territory.

without having to fall into Hollywood Tactics territory

Hollywood tactics is cannon in Star Wars. Check out the trope page for examples. In MLP canon most battles are intentionally comical.

In both universes the grim realities of war are usually unwelcome, because real war can be brutally boring.

Basically, AT-AT looks cool and menacing. It represents the Empire well. We love Luke Skywalker (the OT one). Therefore, the scene when Luke takes out a walker with a lightsaber and a grenade works. No amount or writing would make AT-AT into a reasonable and good fighting vehicle. And there are no reasons good enough for the Empire to produce and deploy these things, except, of course, 'The Rule of Cool'.

a huge transitional period from swords and such

Can't recall a pony using a sword ONCE in battle. There was a brief fencing scene in 'Cutie pox' (modern fencing, pony stands on rear legs while holding an epee with a hoof). Rainbow Dash had a photo of her with a saber in 'Tanks for the memories' (saber held in mouth).

Royal Guards hold their spears in hooves, but in 'Crystal Empire' jousting lances are fixed to ponies bodies, because they need all four legs to run. Go figure that out!

Basically, with ponies anything goes, so long as you managed to establish the rules and don't break them afterwards in a way that takes your readers out of the story.

When you think about it, ponies have a lot more going for them than Evoks.

Hollywood tactics are only really the problem when what's going on (the Drama) is not good enough to distract the mind of the audience from the nonsence that is going on before their eyes.

The good drama comes from good writing, not from doing military research.
