Postmortem: The Button · 4:04pm Mar 1st, 2022
I had to let this one sit for a while. Now that the sci-fi contest results are in, I think I'm ready to do this. My process on how I wrote The Button and my retrospective after the break.

I finished a short story. I feel good about it.
But I want to take a minute to go over what I set out to do versus the final product to sort through my method and identify what I think worked, what didn't, and what I can try to do different next time. This is a fairly long blog post, and it's mostly for my own benefit, but for anyone who's interested, all the juicy behind-the-scenes stuff is behind the break. There's also a sneak peek at what I have planned to work on next at the end.
Okay, let's give this a shot.
The Last Crusade is done! Let everyone rejoice. I hope you enjoyed the story. Now that we're done with all that, though, I figured it'd be fun to do an open Q & A session to see if anyone has any lingering question about the story! (I hope that doesn't seem pretentious of me or whatever.)
I'm a little unfamiliar with any kind of process or "duties" that an author has following the ending of a longer fic. I've seen some authors do things like talk a little bit about the process of writing the story was like, or they clue the readers in on inspirations for certain things, or they host an AMA thing.
Okey dokey! I got all your questions, and thanks to those that sent them in! It’s been a pretty slow day at work, so I managed to type up answers here pretty quick. I hope they explain some things!
-What inspired you to write this? Aside from, of course, 5s/4.
